Default mini blu-ray to hold 16gig on single layer?

http://www.tgdaily.com/2007/01/08/ce...200gb_blu-ray/
says"also on display are 8cm Mini Blu-ray discs, which have a capacity of 16.5 GB by using a single-layer recording material structure. The Blu-ray minis will be available in BD-R and BD-RE formats. Complementing the TDK lineup are thermal and inkjet printable BD-Rs that will begin shipping in the second quarter of 2007."

thats a typo right thats dule layer?

http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/05/t...scs-at-ceatec/ confimed agein that mean a single layer 8cm discs holds as much as a full size single layer hd dvd

The Maxell 8cm BDs claim 7.5 GB.

So a DL would be 15GB.

I think TDK (or was it Verbatim) said 7.8 GB on the 8cm discs.

Will these 8cm mini Blu-ray discs work in PS3s due to it's front-loading disc-insertion mechanism? I've only ever had tray CD/DVD drives before which all oviously support 8cm media but I can see issues with the PS3 and wouldn't want to try an 8cm disc incase it gets jammed!

One of these dual layer discs holds 3gb more data than a dual-layer HD-DVD!

Only BLU-RAY devices with trays will work with the small discs. These 8MM discs would be ideal for BLU-RAY camcorders with 1080P and 3 CCD’s.

It is so obvious BLU-RAY is better then HD-DVD. BLU-RAY could release movies on a small 8CM disc and still have more room for better quality movies then HD-DVD.

Single layer 8CM Blu-ray disc 16.5GB
Dual layer 8CM Blu-ray disc 33GB

HD-DVD full size single layer 15GB
HD-DVD full size dual layer 30GB
BLU-RAY full size single layer 25GB
BLU-RAY full size dual layer 50GB

Coming some time in the future is multilayer 100GB and 200GB BLU-RAY discs.

I have not checked the instruction manual yet, but some one mentioned that the PS3 already accepts mini CD’s, DVD’s, and BLU-RAY discs. Make sure you verify this with the instruction manual before inserting a 8CM disc.

Just as some one else stated, Nintendo's Wii is also a slot loading disc console. It has no trouble what so ever with 8cm Game Cube discs. I don't see why Sony's PS3 would be any diffrent. I am sure that you can pop a mini DVD from a Sony Dvd camcorder (or any DVD camcorder) into a PS3 and have it play just fine.

Edit: damn! some one beat me to it, oh well

Well first of all the PSP doesn't read blu-ray discs and 2 its a 8cm mini disc not UMD But!

Maybe for the psp2 we will see Blu-Ray UMD's? Actually A better Idea would be to make the PSP2 play 8cm Blu-Ray discs. That way it could play 8cm Blu-Ray movies too.

Infact I garentee it!

embarrasing for HD DVD. Even BD's little brother still can beat HD DVD in capacity
