Default BD single & dual layer question

I would like to buy a blu ray. I think that this new technology beats-out the HD DVD.

However, I read that blu ray discs, due to manufacturing issues, are only produced in single layer. As a result, the movies are transferred at 18 mb instead of 36 mb. Has this been remedied or does anyone know what is being done?

Thanks

Not true, there are single layer (25 GB), and dual layer (50 GB) on the market. The two Pirates of the Carribean movies are examples of dual layer discs.

Default Manufacture issues resolved?

Thanks for the information. I'm glad to hear the the problem was corrected. My wife and I would like to buy the latest James Bond movie, and I would prefer to get into the Blu ray system.

My question came up after I read an online article By George Graves on HDTVsolutions.com dated sometime before the 2006 holidays. Also, it was consistent with information provided by sales reps at Best Buy.

It is difficult to keep-up isn't it?! I am having similar problems with HDTV. I was about to buy a Mits 57732 projection screen yesterday when I saw that the Mits laser projection screens are poised to come out. I'm definitely going to wait for that.

Chao,

Razones

There are single- and double-layer BD-ROMs, BD-Rs and BD-REs. Mini BDs are in development for use with consumer-grade HD AVC cams.

The majority of the movies are now in dual layer. I was actually surprised to find some obscure (from US mainstream audience point of view) titles such as Volver and Warriors of Heaven and Earth were dual layer. And yes, Casino Royale is a really good one.

As for your other source of information...I wouldn't believe anything a Best Buy employee says. Do your own research, that's 100% more reliable.

welcome

the information is so wrong it is impossible to even understand what the guy is trying to say.

When BD started in June/July DL BD was not being replicated yet because the DL machines were not ready yet. SL BD is 25GB and DL is 50 now most new movies releases are DL. Also HD DVD is 15GB SL and 30GB DL.

that is what is odd about your post, 18mb and 36mb are not based on the reality of any format.

PS did some searching. I guess you mean

http://www.hdtvsolutions.com/HD-DVD_Vs_Blu-ray.htm
and this part

well that is also completely wrong but even funnier then what you posted

the transfer rates are

HD DVD: 36mbps
BD total: 54mbps 1.5x HD DVD

HD DVD max content: 30.24mbps
BD max video: 48mbps

HD DVD max video: 29.4 mbps (a joke because if it is 29.4 there is not enough room for any real audio - i.e. it can't even fit two DVD quality audio tracks, so in my opinion it is a dishonest quantity)
BD max video:40mbps

So where he got BD is 18mbps I have no idea. Also I won’t bother with the rest of the article, but the few places I read were even more wrong (if possible) then this.
