So I'm moving on up from a old 40GB PS3 to the newer 120GB slims.
A few questions. Is it possible to transfer game data to the new one so I wouldnt have to accomplish everything all over again? How are trophies merged? How does downloadable content work? Do I have to pay for it again if I want to use it on the old one still - or am I able to redownload it on the new one for free? How does one sign up for PSN again on the old one, since I am giving it to my sister and she wants to create her own PSN account? |

When you start up, it should ask if you already have an account.
As long as you are going to use the same PSN name, trophies and everything downloaded by that account will be there. Make sure you sync trophies with the server though. You will have to re-download purchased games, but you wont have to pay for them. |

NOTE: This will automatically format the HDD of the original PS3! Otherwise, a system back-up might be your other option. However, warning is given that many game save files are protected to keep from being "shared" in each scenario. I lost all of my Rock Band characters/progress and had to redownload ALL OF MY DLC after doing a back-up restore onto a new system that I had sent away for repairs. Trophies are stored on your PSN account on the Sony servers. Once you log onto your account on the new PS3, the info will be merged with your new system. If the DLC doesn't transfer over from the data transfer, you can easily download it all again without paying. Go into the PS Store and select the "View Downloads" option on the top right of the main page. From there, you can redownload anything that you have ever previously downloaded... so long as you are online WITH YOUR PSN ACCOUNT! Using the same e-mail address and password from your existing account, you can easily link your account to the new system. I believe when you first try to sign in it will ask you if you already have an account or if you wish to create one. Last edited by Petra_Kalbrain; 03-29-2010 at 02:00 PM. |

I really wish they made it so any Save files could be copied; Devs putting 'protections' on them makes no sense to me. I remember an exchange on this board where some ppl thought less of the PS2 because it used memory cards (as opposed to hard drive). My view has always been the opposite; this thread helps prove that too. |
