So the upgrade bug has bit and I'm looking to replace my 14yr rears with bipolars - Polk FXi A6's. I'm running my system in a 5.1 setup. Currently, my rears are placed in corners behind the sofa, about 2ft back, 2-3ft off the to sides and on speaker stands.
Here's my dilema. By going with bipolars, I'm looking to put those on the back wall and eliminate the speaker stands altogether, but because of the layout of the studs and MAINLY, because of a stupid electrical panel, which is about 1.5 - 2 ft away from a side wall, my speaker placement would be limited. Because of that electrical panel, the bipolars would need to be placed more towards the inside, so instead of the rears being a few feet off to the side on the sofa, they'd be more directly behind it. The speakers would be roughly behind a person on both ends of the sofa, if that makes sense. But putting the speakers in this area, I have wiggle room as far as speaker height goes. The the other option would be to place the speakers high up, more towards the ceiling, with one of them going above the electrical panel. Doing it this way would push the rears more towards the side walls, but by going this route, I would have no wiggle room as far as height. I'm guessing if I went with this placement, that the rears would be roughly about 3ft above the seating position to the bottom of the speaker. A little more than that if you measure from the seating position to the driver. I thought about flipping the room so that the tv and mains are up against the wall with the electrical panel, but I don't know what would happen, if anything, with tv and mains being up in the area of that panel, as far as electrical interference is concerned. |
