Default PS3: PCM or Bitstream??

Hey guys. I have a substantial 7.2 setup and use my PS3 primarily for blu-ray use. I currently have the dated (first gen) version of the PS3 which decodes and outputs Dolby True HD & DTS MA via PCM. Is it worth it to buy the newer PS3 Slim that outputs these sources in Bitstream format? And more importantly, is there a considerable difference in sound quality??
