Default Syfy's "12 Monkeys" (Season 2)

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...s-order-590140

Quote:
Original movie producers Chuck Roven and Richard Suckle are on board the project, which will be written by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett.
Twelve Monkeys
"12 Monkeys"

The cable network, which previewed Ron Moore's Helix at Comic-Con, is adapting Terry Gilliam's 1995 feature 12 Monkeys, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The movie starred Bruce Willis as James Cole, a convicted criminal in a post-apocalyptic future where the Earth's population is forced to live underground after a deadly virus. In a bid to earn a pardon, Cole will use an imperfect science of time travel to help collect information on the virus released by the Army of the Twelve Monkeys.

Feature film producers Chuck Roven and Richard Suckle from Atlas Entertainment -- one of the production companies on board the Universal film -- submitted the pitch, which is being eyed as a 90-minute backdoor pilot that would eventually lead to a straight-to-series order in a fashion similar to Syfy's Battlestar Galactica. Terry Matalas (Nikita, Terra Nova, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Travis Fickett (Nikita, Terra Nova) will pen the script, with 24's Jon Cassar on board to direct. "We have a great pilot, we're now flushing out what the rest of the series might be," Syfy president of original programming Mark Stern told The Hollywood Reporter.

Willis, Brad Pitt, Jon Seda and Madeleine Stowe starred in the feature, which earned Pitt an Oscar nomination for his supporting turn. The film grossed $168 million worldwide. For its part, the film was inspired by Chris Marker's 1962 short La Jetee.

12 Monkeys comes as Syfy looks to beef up its original scripted fare following the successful launch of pricey drama Defiance. The network is looking to add five to six new original scripted projects for 2014 to join Helix, which also was picked up straight to series.

"We're looking at short orders, maybe eight to 10 [episodes] as opposed to 13," Stern said. "Some may be [split runs of] 10 and 10. Our goal is to do five or six original scripted series a year and a big tentpole event miniseries that could also possibly serve as a backdoor pilot to a series as well the way that Battlestar Galactica did. It's an exciting time for us."

"We're really trying to figure out what our next year is going to be," he added. "We have Helix in January, we're trying to figure out what our summer series is going to be. We have a lot of different options. We know that Defiance is going to come back in the summer, the last six episodes of Warehouse 13 are going to be back along with Defiance. Then there's this big gray zone after that of what follows. We definitely have a miniseries we want to try to do for December of 2014 -- Jamie Foxx's is a series of half-hours we might do for Halloween of 2014. We're looking to do a big four-hour miniseries -- a tentpole mini -- at the end of 2014 and we're trying to figure out what that's going to be."

"We have a half-dozen scripts that are all pretty amazing in their own way," Stern said of Syfy's development pipeline. "It's a return to our roots in terns of science-fiction: cool, interesting push-the-genre science fiction. Some we're looking at doing straight to series because you really want to give them the flexibility and do a closed-ended arced run. Some of them are going to be traditional pilots, then we'll decide and they may be a bit more episodic."

12 Monkeys joins a development roster that also includes Bryan Fuller's High Moon and Proof, from M. Night Shyamalan, among others.

Could be interesting. One of my favorite films so hopefully they can make it just as good. I still haven't seen the original.

I'd give it a watch. Enjoyed the Bruce Willis movie enough to atleast peek my interest.

Still think the most important part of that article is:

Hear tons of people complain about the shows on SyFy while I personally quite like a lot of their shows. Even if they are not SyFy original series they are still showed on SyFy so for me they still get credit. Anyway, I'm not going to complain about more Science-fiction styled shows. They tend to be the most entertaining for me even if they are usually short lived.

Sounds like something I would enjoy. I'm currently enjoying several, like, Defiance, Continuum, Sinbad, Primeval: New World.

Need to check out Being Human, & Haven! Never seen the feature 12 Monkeys.

The film was so boring other than Pitt's performance.

Default 12 Monkeys Pilot Greenlit by Syfy

Quote:
Back in July we got the early word that Syfy was considering a "12 Monkeys" series based on Terry Gilliam's 1995 feature film of the same name, and today the news has arrived that a pilot has been greenlit.

From the Press Release:
Syfy is greenlighting "12 Monkeys," a drama series based on the 1995 Universal Pictures film directed by Terry Gilliam, to pilot. The 60-minute cast-contingent pilot is being produced by Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Entertainment, producer of the original Bruce Willis-Brad Pitt theatrical version.

Based on the classic hit film, "12 Monkeys" follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.

Production is set to begin in November with Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett ("Terra Nova," "Nikita"), who wrote the pilot script, serving as co-executive producers. Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven (American Hustle, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight trilogy) and Richard Suckle (American Hustle, The International) will executive produce. Roven produced the original film.

Look for more soon!

[TV] Syfy Officially Orders "12 Monkeys" Pilot

Quote:
Syfy has given a cast-contingent pilot order to the previously mentioned “12 Monkeys,” a drama series based on the 1995 Universal Pictures/Atlas Entertainment film directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, Deadline reported.

The 60-minute pilot, produced by Universal Cable Prods and Atlas Entertainment, was written on spec by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett (“Terra Nova”).

“It follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Filming is tentatively slated to begin in November.”

Atlas’ Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy), who produced the feature, and Richard Suckle will executive produce, with Matalas and Fickett co-executive producing.

This is Syfy’s second consecutive pilot order to a sci-fi feature adaptation — last month the network greenlighted a 90-minute pilot for “Dominion,” a drama based on characters from the 2010 feature Legion. “12 Monkeys” was among several hot projects at Syfy, which may not be done with its orders (pilot or straight to series.)

‘12 Monkeys’ Picked Up To Series At Syfy

Syfy has given a series order to 12 Monkeys, a drama based on the 1995 Universal Pictures film directed by Terry Gilliam. The project, written/co-executive produced by Terry Matalas & Travis Fickett (Nikita) has received a 12-episode order for a January 2015 premiere. 12 Monkeys was one of two pilots most recently ordered by Syfy. The other, Bryan Fuller’s High Moon, is not going forward.
12 Monkeys, from Universal Cable Prods. and Atlas Entertainment, producer of the movie, follows the journey of a time traveler (Aaron Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.
Amanda Schull, Noah Bean and Kirk Acevedo also star. Natalie Chaidez (V) serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle. Jeffrey Reiner directed and executive produced the pilot. “12 Monkeys is a captivating time travel adventure and high stakes race against the clock,” said Syfy president Dave Howe. The pickup of 12 Monkeys comes on the heels of Syfy renewing Ron Moore’s drama Helix for a second season and announcing a return to the longform arena with event series Ascension as the network is shifting towards more serialized fare in the tradition of “space opera” Battlastar Galactica. 12 Monkeys also joins another recently ordered new Syfy series based on a movie, Dominion, adaptation of the feature Legion.

Being Human is really good, especially once they start doing their own thing separate from the original version.

I'd tell you to avoid Haven, and I say this as someone who watches every episode, mainly for the chemistry of the leads whom I like. The writing is piss poor, especially when they're in procedural "of the week" mode. They have some interesting seeds with the mythology they've been trying to build, but they're not doing a very good job with it.

I definitely liked what I saw from the trailer, and I'm very pleased to see so many familiar faces (two from Nikita, one from the early days of True Blood, and one from Fringe).

The Triangle was a good mini-series several years ago. So I'm not ruling this out completely. I hate their awful movies though usually.

I agree. Looks quite promising. I've got to hand it to SyFy, they are really putting forth some quality shows. Defiance, Helix, Dominion, and now 12 Monkeys, has got me watching SyFy again.

Time to bump this up. What an excellent premier episode. Thank you SyFy for actually having good sci-fi shows again.
Never saw the movie, but I may have to see it now.
Also happy to see some of my favorite character actors in the show. Like Kirk Acevedo, Noah Bean and Aaron Stanford.

I agree, in fact it's the best new TV show I have seen in some time. Hopefully it keeps this movie type pace but this is not your standard sharknado cheese type syfy show. Well done syfy, well done.

I forgot this had started. I still have the option to watch it through Hulu, or I can hope that Universal will release it on Blu-ray like they have with Continuum and a few other shows.
