Default Difference b/w 1080p and 1080/24p HD on Blu-Ray Player/TV? VERY CONFUSED!

I saw the fps basics thread.
Lol I am very sad to admit this, but I am still confused.
I am a total noob with this stuff.
I just noticed for the first time when watching a film it says 1080/24p instead of 1080p.
Just curious what that means vs. 1080p?
And does it get any better than this quality, just curious?
Does it depend on the Blu-Ray Disc, Player, TV? If it deal with the player or tv, how do you change it?
I saw someone say it can go to 30, or higher, is that better or worse?
Ok, I am confused.
Thanks,
T_B
I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question.

24 is the frames per second, so it's displaying 1080p resolution @ 24 fps, which is what's encoded on most Blu-rays. Some tv's, mostly older ones, would convert the 24fps to 60 fps which, since 60 is not a factor (I think that's the correct term . . . been out of math for awhile ) of 24, there's some conversion that has to go which can lead to jittery image. So, in regards to quality yes, 1080p/24 is better.

Oh I get it now thank you. So the lower the number the better obviously when dealing with frame rates. Thanks so much!

It's not that the number is lower, but that the number (24) is exactly what is encoded on the disc, so there's no processing/interpolation etc. that has to go on when displaying the image.

Newer TV's that are 120/240hz and have the MotionFlow etc. technologies use some interpolation in order to "convert" 24 fps to 120/240 (note that both are divisible by 24, but since they're turning 24 fps into 120/240, there's some faking that needs to be done) and give you that smooth look, although, to me, it just looks like it's in fast forward.
