Default PSN Spam Virus???

Was just directed to this article by a friend. I'm curious if it may be possible as I have opened a "Kevin Butler" PSN message recently. I'm not trying to cause panic and mayhem regarding the potential situation, but I thought that you should all know of its existence JUST IN CASE. If nothing else just monitor your credit card transactions closely.

Nope. Nothing about a website. And, if I did get one with a website link, I'd NEVER ACTIVATE THE LINK! Even before this news report I would never activate a link in a spam message of ANY kind on ANY electronic device.

Worrying time ahead then for some people. I just do not open any mail unless I know the person sending it. Hope Sony gets a handle on this before it becomes to prevalent. Had a few from different names.

I've always opened them so that I could send a reply message telling them to help stop the problem by deleting instead of sending. I take the "Don't drink the kool-aid" approach to getting the message across to them that nothing can possibly come of these since the messages can't possibly be tracked. Maybe I'm wrong in that they CAN be tracked somehow? So, because of that, I'm a bit .

I also open the messages because it comes from people on my friends list or people I just recently played online with. But I have never clicked on any link someone has sent me. It does get annoying seeing stupid messages saying PSN is going to start being charged if you don't reply this message 30xs,it just goes to show you how stupid people are.

Ya, well, I'd like some clarification regarding this news report. Is it saying that simply by opening the message to read the PSN text can trigger this so called "code" that can make you susceptible? Or is it saying that activating any link or websites listed within the message will make you susceptible?

Well as far as the messages with the website, I heard its a scam to give up your psn id passoword and stuff. Tricking you with thinking they will give you free stuff. I assume that is what you were talking about.

When the article refers to emails, are they referring to messages you receive across the PSN?

I received one of those Kevin messages a few days ago, first time i've seen spam across the psn. I didn't know the guy who sent it so I opened it wondering what the heck the guy wanted.

I really dont think there is any harm in opening messages. It just stupid spam, messages like these have been going around for a while, no different then your e-mail really. It's when you start giving up private information or downloading stuff you will have a problem. I would also be careful about clicking on any links even if its someone you know.

Yeah, spamming/chain letters is an issue - even with friends on your list.

I actually had a person on my friends list send me a message that said something like,

"Sony is aware of the spamming issue. They want to track how widespread this is. Please forward this message to ensure everyone that the Spam will stop and Sony will distribute free PSN dollars for your account. We'll get through this everyone!"

I seriously couldn't believe he sent that to me.

Ultimately, its the temptation offer of a "free credit" carrot that draws anyone in.

I get that one a lot. Never looked at it before. It was a link to a site where you could apparently generate PSN codes to use. I've gotten it from a few people, and lots of the Kevin Butler ones.

Oh yeah, I saw the PSN Code generator spam message other day. Didn't realize it was spam though. I thought the guy was just sending it out to his buddies. Didn't sound legal to me, so I didn't give it a second thought and deleted it.

Last thing I need is for Sony to ban me from PSN, since the main games I play are Warhawk and LBP.

Ya I didn't think it was spam until I got 4+ of them. I figured it was illegal too. Would rather not lose my PSN account over something stupid like that.

Yeah something about sending a code to like 10 people to get a $10 PSN Card, 25 people for a $25 card, 50 people for a $50 card. Pretty fake and stupid.

No - this one was about going to a site that would generate codes for PSN items so you could get them for free. There are no code generators for anything out there that are for legal use.
