Default Going to war with the wife.

So i finally got a pretty good setup in the basement HT room. I'm super happy with it. Took my old setup and threw it in the garage. Simple 5.0 setup, nothing fancy...just old junk for speakers.

She complained that the garage didn't need to be a HT room as well. My problem is now that things are working great in the basement, she's recording oprah, tlc, and lifetime movies to watch. Hence, the garage is going to become the "man cave v2.0."

I need some help. If you have some crappy speakers or subs laying around you are looking to throw out or whatever, hit me up with a PM. I'll try and be fair with price and shipping to.

Going to reserve a couple of posts to document this war. Should be entertaining to say the least. Married 8 months ago, so i gotta bunker in now while i can.

Updates: I live up in North Dakota, shipping is tough.

Got a couple of Onkyo surround speakers from a buddy.

Wow! Only 8 months and she has you relegated to the garage already. Man, she's quick. Good luck and you have my condolances!

Just remember to pick your battles wisely. It's OK to lose a few, but don't lose the war!

I have some old Pioneer center channel, Sony Towers and Bookshelves, but it would cost as much to ship them as it would for me to sell them. So essentailly, I might even lose a few bucks....

Man I wish I could help you out... I've even got a set of speakers that I'm looking at getting rid of... but as Fors* pointed out... shipping I'm sure would be OUTRAGEOUS so unless ur in the Indianapolis area... I wouldn't be much help...

Graphite, if you're in a metropolitan area I'd suggest hitting up Craigslist.org.

As an example, in Toronto there's right now six people giving away speakers. I'm sure they're old, but for your purposes that would probably work. On top of that there's hundreds of for-sale ads.

So yeah, check out the listings in your area and I'm sure you'll find something to suit your needs.

It's so funny how women find these HT rooms and speakers and movies useless but as soon as they get use to it they suddendly take everything over and it's no longer useless

get her a 37-42" set and put it another room in the house and get her a DVR for her shows...wives, in general, don't appreciate the sound and the visuals that we do.

I'm sure she will be quite content with her own HD display to view

I have to ask...8 months in and she is taking your room over? Did you live together before getting hitched?

Looks about like my dvr. Then when the shows are on there for more than a week I have to tell her watch them or I'm deleting them. Theyre taking up too much space!

Yeah, we lived together for a couple years before we got married.

I live up in the middle of nowhere in North Dakota. We pipe sunlight into the area

You guys are right, shipping makes it tough. A couple of my intown buddies saw the post, and they donated a couple of onkyo speakers. I'm up to 7.0. Hopefully i can find a sub of some kind for little to nothing. Won't take much, double stall garage with little to no sound absorbtion.

See... I was lucky enough to win a bunch of gift cards at work that I was able to build a decent 5.1 system with a new receiver and everything, and it didn't cost ANYTHING out of pocket. Now its not the best system here by ANY means, but it serves what I want in my Man Cave getaway and it sounded AWESOME with Saving Private Ryan and Minority report (I actually just got the tower speakers yesterday!!!) But since it cost us nothing out of pocket, she can't say a word!!! I love it!
