Default what kind of receiver?

Hey guys I think my old sony receiver stop working. I'm looking for a new receiver around the $400 or $500 range. A more expensive receiver that's on sale sounds good as well! I'm a college student but hoping to enter nursing school so I don't have that much money to spend right now. I need something that I could hook up my ipod to. I don't really know much about receivers. I don't know any place that has receivers on sale except for 6ave. I do have a bluray player and avg speakers. I have a 1080p tv as well. Can you guys tell me an avg receiver that has all the simple stuff i need.

Onkyo TX-SR608, $500 @ Amazon. Just buy and 3.5mm to stereo adapter for your iPod.

well I think the Pioneer 1020 with its 3D and USB Ipod connections is a great receiver and the Yamaha 765 @ newegg for $399 is a real steal, and also ipod ready

A very very good receiver would be the Yamaha 863 on amazon, you would need the Yamaha ipod dock I believe $39, but it would be an awesome reciever.

Probably one of the better receivers you could get would be the Denon 2310 and again you would need the Denon Ipod dock, but for $528, its a bargin.
http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR2310C...3929814&sr=8-4

In terms of watts per channel, the Denon will be the most accurate with their numbers, do be fooled that each company is giving you numbers with all channels driven, last year the Pioneer put out 29 wpc, however it looks as if they put some weight back on this years model so expect better numbers and the Yamaha about 48-55 wpc.

What I would suggest is listening to them all and seeing what you like best. JMO.

I have a receiver question.. should you always consider .08 THD receiver over differant receivers rated at .9 THD? Or is this something that is often exagerated on paper?

For $500 I like the Marantz SR5003. For $50 more you could get the newer SR5004. However I think you would need a separate ipod dock. I know from firsthand experience that Pioneer models are ipod ready and come with a cable so no dock is necessary.

Hello Steve is the Marantz better than denon pioneer or onkyo. I heard a lot of good stuff about those machines.

If 3D and HDMI 1.4 are not a concern then you have a variety of good options. Check out http://www.dealsofamerica.com. Nearly everyday you will see deals from electronics-expo.com posted on receivers. They have been offering some crazy discounts on last year's receivers. Yamaha, HK, and Denon receivers in particular are receiving some awesome discounts. It seems that they offer the HK 3600 for $600 with the coupon code every other week. HK will be offering updated firmware for HDMI 1.4 capability soon by the way. They have the Denon AVR2310CI for $497.87 right now.

Also look directly at the http://www.electronics-expo.com site and you will sometimes catch deals that aren't posted on deals sites yet. If you don't see many deals now then check daily because they pop up very often. One thing I would suggest is to avoid the Marantz 5004. Waaay too many problems with that one. Go with the 5003 should you decide Marantz is the one for you. If you decide you want a receiver with HDMI 1.4 then look at the Onkyo 608 and the Pioneer 1020. I have the 1020 myself and I'm loving it. HERE's the Yamaha RX-V863 for a good deal too.
