Default Universal says Paramount made a mistake - reconsidering going blu?

http://n4g.com/industrynews/News-60901.aspx

was on a podcast. I love the way everyone is dropping S$$T on paramount for what they did. Oh yeah and the NY Times has confirmed that Paramounted took a $150 mil payoff.

Default I hope

I really hope Universal comes over to blu-ray... It makes me a little uneasy with Paramount on the other side now.

This would be so ironic that I'd honestly feel like I had awakened in Bizarro World.

Come on, what Microsoft wants, they get. Warner will be there next target.
The stupid thing is that Microsoft will eventualy stab them in the back and call them inferior when they come out with their video on demand.

Video on demand will never replace discs. At least not until they can invent cd sized hard drives that hold terabytes worth of info. If you decide you no longer want a downloaded movie all you can do is erase it. No selling the used movie or trading it in. Hd movies use up hard drive space quickly. I've filled up my Tivo easily with just a handful of hd movies. Factor in lack of transportability and losing movies to disc malfunctions or downloading errors I think that downloadable hd movies is going to be a little niche thing.

Cool

Makes one wonder if Universal might have received a $$$$ incentive to stick around a little longer for HD-DVD as well, only under the radar.....hmmm...

Read the article again. Universal didn't say that Parmount made a mistake, IGN did.

dude...the world's been against universal since the dawn of the format war. we have disdain in our hearts for them but now that paramount's stolen the limelight, universal can slip on over and be welcomed with cheers. see...at least universal's been loyal from the beginning. we knew where they stood. but paramount's betrayal of the consumer (not solely blu-ray) is inexcusable. the disgust is real. this would be the perfect time for universal to go blu.

Aint gonna happen, at least not then. Those Uni boys made their bed and now they’re going to sleep in it for awhile longer. The Paramount *deci$ion* is independently exclusive of what Uni will or won’t do in the foreseeable future.

Default Let us stay Blu

I'm not sure what Paramount was thinksing, or who ever was responsible for the decision they made. ...I guess they really needed the money, and are willing to do what's good for them and bad for the consumer just so their numbers this quarter look nice.

As mean as this sounds, I hope that those responsible for the decsion have nightmares over what they did, and that they don't accomplish what ever goal it is they wish to. I hope that Blu-ray supporters stay Blu, and don't buy the Paramount releases in HD-DVD.

We as consumers are the ones that need to remind companies why they exist, we need to show them how wrong their decision was. Consumers, as Lee (Wal-Mart CEO) said, have all the power to even fire a companies CEO.

....so anyways, lets make this a crushing blow for Paramount.
