With the rise of cheap quality streaming (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu) I got to thinking. Could streaming be a viable option for studios to consider during the theatrical run?
I like the theater once in a while, but the ticket price keep going up and the concession prices are outright ludicrous. I know more people who sneak food in than actually buy something in there. Plus with the rise of torrents (NOT THAT I CONDONE THEM) they have to be seeing a possibility of all those lost customers. With my Netflix subscription I've heavily cut down on movie rentals or blind buys knowing I'll be able to watch them eventually (in most cases) with something I already pay for. Wouldn't it be great to be able to pay a price (assume $8-15 per movie) and watch it the day it comes out in theaters from the comfort of your own home? even at $20 for a couple days to watch it would be worth it to a lot of people. Invite your friends over, have dinner and watch the new hit movie. Just some thoughts. Mostly because I wanted to see "Insidious" but no one else wants to around here. |
