The Portable Save File Thread

Questions come up frequently whether game save files can be transported by removable media from one PS3 console to another. Please contribute. I will try to keep current. New additions are in RED.

Though the 3.15 patch addressed file transfer issues from PS3 to PS3, it will still not allow you to copy them to portable storage. You will have to directly connect PS3's, and you will only be allowed to store the files on a single machine. This still will not help those of us who work on games in the bedroom in the morning before work and then in the HT room late in the evening.

I thought that the most recent RE5 patch removed this restriction. I do know it was not allowed before, however.

I can't move my save game from Dragon Age: Origins. Irrespective, my list of games I know about is now at two. I will try and keep it updated with your input.

I thought for sure Dead Space wasn't locked, but when you try to play it with a different ps3, it doesn't work... if it does (please try it). I need someone's game save quickly, as my ps3 crashed and I wanted play it on impossible. (already beat it on hard.)

Haven't played RE5 since I got platinum on it, so I wouldn't know... I just know that I couldn't make a backup of the file when I changed my harddrive...

That's why you use the backup function on the PS3, it then would have backed it up.

I did use it, but when I put my data on the new drive it was nowhere to be found...

Seems like a mishap, as for backing up the console should allow all files to be copied over to the new harddrive, as you aren't moving consoles.

All the above are "portable". I haven't played all of them to test, but all of those saves were successfully transfered to my new PS3 from my old one (hence not locked).

SFIV Not movable which leads me to believe Capcom games are not moveable
