On a serious note, I know my girlfriend hates him because of Nicole Kidman and what he did with Katie Holmes. Plus the guy appears to be a psycho with his behaviors.

The bizarre personal habits took on a life of its own in the media and popular press, which colors the general impression by the populace. He holds weird views, even for a person from Hollywood, and that usually does not sit well with people.

I don't think his acting is limited. He has played a lot of similar characters, but so has Bruce Willis. People just hate Tom Cruise because he's a nutter. Which, coincidentally, has nothing to do with his performance.

I don't know why people dislike Tom Cruise to be honest, he certainly is 'different' in his personal life, but we shouldn't be judging him on that. The guy makes great films, and he is an excellent actor. On a professional level, I love the guy. I don't judge people in the film industry on their personal lives or what they say in interviews, I evaluate them on the quality of their work.

Same here. I could care less how "crazy" Tom Cruise is. As long as he makes good movies, I'll watch. That's all I care about.
