Just wanted to bump this, because it will play on most PBS stations tonight. I hear it is an interesting, if flawed, look at the Doors.

The listing for the Blu says it's Rated R. Won't the PBS showing be edited?

watched last night on PBS. There was some censoring, but from what I could tell, it was just a little bit of language and nudity they edited. Not much.

Enjoyed the film, but not sure if I would buy it unless the price goes way down. Didn't really learn anything new, but the footage was cool.

Jim Morrison letters rearranged= Mr Mojo Risin

It's too bad none of my local PBS had it on. Maybe they will later on. Curious to see this. I enjoy The Doors, actually have all of their CD.

Yeah, mostly it was just language and nudity that was censored. I enjoyed Johnny Depp narrating it. I thought overall it was really well done, and was more of an introspective look at the Doors, and the end of the Doors. Many of the past documentaries have somewhat glorified Jim's status and behavior, and this really took a more serious look at his destructive behavior without all the sugar coating, and how it affected him personally, the band. I also enjoyed the section which discussed some of both Rothchild's and Botnik's influences on the Doors. I also (sadly) never knew that Jim Morrison's name when rearranged was one of the reasons he began chanting the ever popular phrase "Mr Mojo Risin' ".

I will definitely be picking this up when it comes out, always been a huge fan of The Doors, any and all projects, videos, documentaries, and especially music.

As a huge fan of the Doors, the documentary was a little disappointing. Depp was a horrible narrator in my opinion, clearly picked for the marketability of his name attached to the project. You can always tell the difference between professional narrators who have done it before and amateurs like Depp.

I would have preferred Peter Coyote, or Sam Elliot, as the narrator.

I saw it in glorious uncompressed OTA signal from WGTV in Atlanta. I really wish that they did the same type treatment to footage in the Woodstock movie because When You Are Strange had awesome HD scans of period film and photos. I've got it on 2 of my DVR external HDs. If it drops low enough, I will get it. There are extras on the website in the form of 3 interviews.

day 1 purchase, when hits region B. it seems some of you haven`t read any books about Jim. I recommend these :

* Jim Morrison: An Hour for Magic by Frank Lisciandro
* Riders on the Storm: My Life with Jim Morrison and the Doors by John Densmore

* Light My Fire by Ray Manzarek
* Lizard King by Jerry Hopkins
* No One Here Gets Out Alive by Jerry Hopkins and Danny Sugerman

some are accurate some not (how am i to know ), but all are interesting ...

I'm 100% glad they are preserving the vintage DOORS footage on HD via this documentary... and I'm sure we're gonna get even more in the future.

Several clips of this in When You're Strange and for the most part looks like it was shot yesterday with a Morrison look-a-like. That is how good it looks.
