Canada Just me or was 2010 one of the worst years for movies in recent history????

just wondering, i can only think of a few movies last year that i really enjoyed. im kind of getting sick of the loud obnoxious block busters. they seem to be the same re-hash every year, just with different actors.

i am looking forward to seeing Animal Kingdom.

can anyone recommend any under the radar ones that i might have missed???

The nominees for best picture would be a good place to start. Also Blue Valentine.

I can't call 2010 bad when 2009 was the year before it.

Off the top of my head... Zombieland, Kick Ass, and Inception were really enjoyable... Made a good 2010 for me with just those 3... Did you see/enjoy those?

The whole movie industry has been forgettable the last couple of years. Too many remakes and rehashes. Not enough original ideas. Until this changes, it will be hard to think of more than a handful of good movies each year.

Zombieland came out in 09

I've thought the last two years have been pretty blah for movies. 2008 was huge for me, with Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Dark Knight, and Indiana Jones (even though that one was a huge disappointment) all coming out in one summer, so the last couple years have seemed a little slow. Can't wait for 2012 though.

You're right, we should just storm every major studio and burn every trace of any film made in 2010 because this year was just THAT bad!

It's just you. Last year was great, especially compared to 2009. Name me a potential classic from that year. The best one that comes to mind is 'Up.' This year has so much more movies that will be remembered in years to come -- Inception, Toy Story 3, The King's Speech, Scott Pilgrim, Black Swan, The Social Network, Blue Valentine, Kick-Ass...

you're absolutely right. 2010 was the worst year since 2009. 2009 was by far the worst year since 2008. And don't even get me started on 2007....

This is a good post. Every year there is a ton of crap to come out with only a handful of good movies. 2010 was no different.

Inglourious Basterds, The Hurt Locker. Several other decent ones like Crazy Heart, Up in the Air, Invictus, An Education, Avatar, A Prophet, Star Trek, District 9 etc.

But I agree 2010 was better. Inception, Black Swan, True Grit, The Social Network, The Town, Shutter Island, The Fighter, The King's Speech, etc.

while i don't think this year will produce any timeless cinematic classics, i've really got no complaints.

Yes, I would say it's one of the worst years of my lifetime and I'm 30.

I enjoyed Toy Story 3, Shutter Island, The Social Network, Inception, The Town, The American, and even Black Swan. (Red was alright, too.) I'm looking forward to seeing True Grit, The Fighter, and The King's Speech. So I think it was a better year than last year.

Every year, without fail, people whine about how much worse movies were this year than ever before. While I would certainly agree that there were fewer Hollywood movies that i'd rate above a 7/10, there were just as many 8+/10 as ever. Inception, Scott Pilgrim, True Grit, etc.

I also think there were as many or more great independent movies. Nevermind a plethora of great foreign movies.

A bad year for movies? Any year with Black Swan, Scott Pilgrim and Mother is a good year to me.

I am pretty sure that if the Internet was around in 1961, someone would have posted

"is it me or was 1960 the worst year in movie history?"

By the way, the best movie of 2010 was Toy Story 3

If we count Mother (which, technically is a 2010 release in the States), then even better.
