just wondering, i can only think of a few movies last year that i really enjoyed. im kind of getting sick of the loud obnoxious block busters. they seem to be the same re-hash every year, just with different actors.
i am looking forward to seeing Animal Kingdom. can anyone recommend any under the radar ones that i might have missed??? |

![]() I've thought the last two years have been pretty blah for movies. 2008 was huge for me, with Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Dark Knight, and Indiana Jones (even though that one was a huge disappointment) all coming out in one summer, so the last couple years have seemed a little slow. Can't wait for 2012 though. Last edited by BStecke; 02-01-2011 at 02:17 AM. |

It's just you. Last year was great, especially compared to 2009. Name me a potential classic from that year. The best one that comes to mind is 'Up.' This year has so much more movies that will be remembered in years to come -- Inception, Toy Story 3, The King's Speech, Scott Pilgrim, Black Swan, The Social Network, Blue Valentine, Kick-Ass...

while i don't think this year will produce any timeless cinematic classics, i've really got no complaints.

But I agree 2010 was better. Inception, Black Swan, True Grit, The Social Network, The Town, Shutter Island, The Fighter, The King's Speech, etc. Last edited by dmaul1114; 02-01-2011 at 02:32 PM. |

That's not fair. Don't forget, he made The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. He's got some nice ideas that just fail on execution. If you ask me, Friedberg and Seltzer are the worst. Seeing those guys get a film out each year is just baffling.

My opinion of this year is pretty close to last year, bad year for Hollywood, good year for independent cinema. Some really great smaller films have come out the last two years it is just that most people don't give them a chance because they don't look mainstream. Which is ironic because the same people say each year say they are tired of Hollywood doing the same thing over and over again, but they won't check out these other films.

This is a good post. Every year there is a ton of crap to come out with only a handful of good movies. 2010 was no different.

when a movie like winters bone is getting a ton of cred you know its a bad year. i mean you couldnt find any supporting performances better than jeremy renner's in the town. that movie sucked. guy pearce was way better than him in animal kingdom. the social network is proly the best all around film of the year yet as perfect as it was it was nothing groundbreaking. you have to look back to 07 with no country for old men and there will be blood as far as a halfway decent year. i usually see around 5 to ten movies every fall/winter at the theater but the last couple of years have been a bit dull. films from the 50's through 90's rule, however there's hope in 2011 since pta is working. did i mention pta's the master, yea, it's going to be the shiit!!!
