Default another ps3 question

HI...since my receiver doesnt have hdmi...I ran digital optical to my receiver and hdmi to TV...how come there's no audio coming out of my TV?and the funniest part is that sometimes there's audio coming out of TV.could it be a bad hdmi cable?

Why run any audio to your TV? If you have a receiver, I would assume you have speakers attached to it? Just run video to the TV.

yeah exactly. I run the optical out the ps3 to the receiver and the hdmi is just for picture which goes to the tv. from what you are saying it sounds like you are running the optical to the tv or running the optical to the reciver then the tv.
I have no sound coming from the tv and I just use the surround sound.

Well if you really want the audio from your TV you'll have to go in to the audio setting and change it from Optical to HDMI. I'm hoping you're doing the audio from the TV late at night to be nice to the people in your house and not all the time since the audio in some game like Ridge Racer 7 is meant for 7.1.

did you go into settings and let the ps3 know to use the optical out?

Im running optical out into receiver to get dolby digital sound and is working great..my audio setting is at digital optical instead of HDMI which now I understand why theres no sound coming out of my tV speaker...but for some reason sound comes out of TV once without changing my audio setting??????
