So the other night I rented "Funny People" on Blu-ray to check out the film. I really enjoyed the film so I decided to purchase it, however, it won't play in my Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray player. I tried it out in two other players and it worked just fine, but it never worked in my player. Even after installing the current firmware updates the disc would not load. The LED readout on the player says play, but the TV screen remains black after the disc loads. I don't know what to do at this point so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Blu-ray is all new to me, so this question may be stupid...When I put the second disc into my player (Samsung HT-BD 1250) I can't get any kind of access to the special features... Universal logo pops up..Blu-Ray logo pops up...Then I get an image of Sandler, Rogen, and Bana goofing off in a loop...Same thing over and over, no matter what I try...SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I had exactly the same problem with my Panasonic BD60- the disc would start and go to the menu- we would hit play then see the FBI warning, opinion disclaimer and Rating then blank screen. My question is this- I see where you have the SD card set up and by removing it you could watch the disc- but I do not have the unit set up for BD-Live- no SD card as the unit is not connected to a computer or the internet BUT we still had the same problem. We have never had this happen on any other Blu-Ray disc we have watched and have had the unit for about 8 months- it works great but this is an enigma. I downloaded the most recent firmware update and upon insertion of the CD-R- the unit indicated that it was up to date. Anyone have any ideas?

Here's the deal folks. Let me start by saying that I owned a Philips BDP7200/F7 (BonusView 1.1) player that I purchased around January of 2009 at Target for $200. Stick with me there is a point to all this. I currently own close to 300 BD's and the only disc my player would no play was Drag Me To Hell, which I very frustrated about because I love the movie. After contacting Philips around the release time of that disc they told me they were working on the problem. Well, it's now December and they have yet to supply a firmware upgrade to fix the problem. So guess what I gave up and bought a Sony BDP-S360 for $118 dollars just after Thanksgiving. I recently gave my Philips to a friend because she is not as picky as me and right before I gave it to her I tried to play a few titles in it. I tried Funny People and Inglorious Basterds and both did not play and let me just say that I have the most recent firmware available. They get to the menu but won't actually play anything on the disc. I have come to the realization that it is something Universal (the company) related. It seems to only happen to thier new titles Drag Me To Hell, Funny People, Bruno and Inglorious Basterds (these are the ones I am aware of). It could be a result of something to do with specs for the BD-Live options that they obviously made some changes to, that's my best guess. Unfortunately it seems to me that alot of these BonusView players are quite possibly never gonna be able to play these discs unless Universal makes a few changes to thier specs. I wouldn't hold my breath for that one because all these discs play fine in other players. It must be some kind of internal thing where the machine tells the disc it has disabled BD-Live. Maybe in my old Philips and some other players it does not do this the same way as the players that you actually have to shut it off and therefor the disc and the player can't communicate properly. So anyway, heads up on the new Universal titles with BD-Live and I hope for others sake that these players eventually get upgraded but I just got impatient and bought a new player. Good luck to all and I hope I haven't frightened too many people.

Sorry, I just could not resist. It's this kind of thing that bothers me about Blu-Ray. People should not have to deal with these kinds of problems. Sure, they can be the occaisional bad disc, but it's more widespread than that I think. |
