Default The Shield....is it worth bothering with?

So I've long put off watching The Shield, for the sole fact that I have felt it may be a bit TOO extreme, if that makes sense.

Perhaps that's a result of me seeing some clip once, and I may be "misremembering" it, ala Roger Clemens, of
[Show spoiler]Robert LaSardo raping another dude or something. Think the dude was a police chief or something.

Maybe I'm misjudging the entire series on that one memory, but wondering how the show stacks up against shows like 24 and Sons of Anarchy as far as the extreme content.

I know it's produced by Sutter, who also did Sons of Anarchy, although I notice via IMDB he's less involved with the overall number of episodes of the Shield, as SOA.

The Shield is one of the best shows of all-time, if you like dirty cops. Just start with the first season, as it starts off awesome and just continues to build until the gripping climax. There is a lot of mature content, even by the standards of regular cable.

I really liked the first couple seasons... but then realized it was a big soap opera. Mackey is definitely a good character, though. Had some redeeming qualities and also very BAD qualities.

hello, my name is incredible tv, i'm surprised we haven't met until now.......

Just kidding Groo, but seriously I consider the Shield to be the greatest cop show of all-time. yes Sutter was less involved in this, but he was there for nearly all of the brainstorming and story board meetings. The Shield was the first cop show to really ever get down and dirty, real gritty violent, dirty cops. It is one of my all-time favorite shows.

BTW, Robert LaSardo wasn't the one who raped Acevada, lol. But during that scene I actually laughed because of how much I hated his character, I actually clapped during mouth rape.

you sick disgusting man. lol

Reminds me of that boondocks comic strip where Huey and Caesar are walking, and Huey says "says here R. Kelly got an NAACP image award nomination" and Caeser responds "What category? Music or Film?"

to which Huey replies "you are a foul and disgusting human being"

ha ha ha.

The Shield is amazing. The characters are so well written that you felt like you are watching people's real lives come unraveled. It still has the most jaw dropping moments ever on tv. Highly worth watching.

The Shield is one of my top 5 shows all time, and happens to be the only not pay channel show in that list. It is very realistic, and has some of the most impressive writing you will find.

You've became a fan of Sons of Anarchy, so that is already a huge step in the right direction. Other shows to watch without question:

The Shield
Deadwood
The Wire

The show really is overall amazing. The second season in particular though, I would hold that up against any single season of any series, it is my personal favorite overall season of any series ever.

Seen the Wire. Love it. The best show ever created for television in the history of the world
[Show spoiler](part 1)

Deadwood, couldn't get into it because of the over the top gratuitous language.

May start Shield after I finish doing Karen Sisco
[Show spoiler](giggity)
and Kidnapped.

Why are you watching so many shows canceled before they even completed a season? Lol, Deadwood takes some getting used to, but Ian McShane stole every scene he was in. That guy is phenomenal. You should really give it another chance just for him.

SHUT UP! lol

I dunno, I always enjoyed watching cool shows.

some of my favorite shows only lasted one season or less.

John Doe
Touching Evil (US version with Jeffrey Donovan)
Saved (TNT show with Tom Everett Scott)
Wanted (TNT show with Gary Cole, Ryan Hurst and Lee Tergeson)
Thief (FX show with Andre Braugher and Clifton Collins Jr.)

While there where quite a few shows that I enjoyed that where canceled earlier, I cannot consider them favorites for the simple fact that not enough time had been given to fully develop the characters or stories. The only show that I can think of I cared about ending early was Freaks and Geeks, but at 13 the show seemed very important to me, lol.

The Shield is one of the 3-4 best shows in the last 10 years in my opinion along with The Wire, The Sopranos(even though it fell off the last 3 seasons before the final half season), and Six Feet Under. You will not regret watching this show.

It's interesting the shows that I've never seen a single episode of, although they seem to be shows I would perhaps like.

The Sopranos
CSI
NCIS
Without a Trace

These shows I have never seen a single episode.

Other shows I liked get cancelled quickly. Go figure. lol

Eli Stone, Life, Saved.... *sigh*

I still cannot believe that Damien Lewis or Sarah Shahi never landed another show. Maybe Sarah is still playing at home home, but where the hell did Damien go!! He is fantastic and well I'm missing both of them on my weekly screen a lot!

That was why I was happy to see two "Lifers" show up on Anarchy this past season.
