It’s not and right now there are no plans to. We filmed in a very basic Super-16 film, and I don’t understand all the technologies and all the techno-speak but my understanding is that right now it’s not an ideal candidate to be put on Blu-ray because of the quality of the film. I think they don’t feel there’d be enough distinction between the shitty grainy look that was intentional of the show that you achieve just through basic DVD. At least that’s how it’s been explained to me, so for the moment anyways it’s not available on Blu-ray. |

Not sure if the grainy issue will stand for a lot longer as more people are realizing/discovering that that grain or grittinish(intentionally) is part of the original master because most posts I read are against DNR, or heavy use of it anyways.
By the way, and forgive my not knowning, why is it called DNR when it has to do with the graininess of the picture/film stock and not with the audio? ![]() |

Lol...the 'noise' in 'digital noise reduction' refers to visual noise, not audial noise. Visual noise = grain/snow/whatever.

i guess the question is how big the fanbase is for the show and how much of an upgrade would you get vs the cost to go thru and do all the work to get it on blu. It would be an expensive set.
I would pick it up probably since i do not currently have the set on DVD either but i think the DVDs are a fine format for this set (had individual sets but sold the) remembers its also 4:3 and not widescreeen |

That sounds like the thought process Sony went through on The Shield. It could be released on Blu-ray, but they have pulled back from television on Blu-ray for the most part. Maybe in a few years when the BD market is much larger and can legitimately support the sales of television sets.

I searched IMDB by the filming method they used on the Shield and there are a lot of other movies and TV shows that use the same method and are on Blu-Ray. It doesn't make sense to not release the Shield on Blu-Ray. They used Super-16 for the movie Crash (2008) and it looks great just on DVD and it has been released on Blu-Ray as well. Think about all the really old poor quality movies that are on Blu-Ray. I think the Shield would be fine on Blu-Ray.
