Default article: The Hd-dvd Format Now Has More Titles Then The Blu-ray Format

According to this article since Paramount is HD-DVD exclusive now there is now more HDTV titles on the HD-DVD format compared to the BLU-RAY format.

Quote
Discontinued Paramount and DreamWorks titles account for just over 11% of all domestic Blu-ray releases, leaving 257 Blu-ray titles in active release as of Aug. 28, according to data from The DVD Release Report. There are 279 HD DVDs available to consumers, giving that format the edge in title count for the first time since Blu-ray began to dominate at the turn of the new year.”

And they're still losing in sales by a good 2-1 margin.

hmmnn... I don't think that's taking into account all the releases coming by the end of this year.. I mean.. damn even Fox are kicking out at least 30 films by themselves before Christmas. Besides which..and I don't mean this out of spite because of paramount going exclusive but it's Quality not Quantity that matters most.. and the majority of Blu-rays titles are big hitters while I don't think the same can be said for a lot of Universals catalogue releases so far.

I think by the end of the year the balance will have been addressed.

Remember we have seen just a fraction of what the BDA are planning. It is definitely a sure-fire bet that we will hear more at IFA.

Tomorrow at 16:00-17:00 European time. About 10am ET for anyone wondering.

They may have more titles, but we more titles that people want and that sell.
Have you ever looked at the blu vs red sction in your local target/circuit city? HD DVD is WELL Stocked and Blu Ray is almost empty always.

Did they pull the Blu-ray releases off the shelf?

"Available to consumers" doesn't actually mean available to consumers, but rather "will be available to consumers at some later date when the titles get sold out, but we're pretending nothing new comes out"

If you add up the PQ scores of those movies I bet BD is waaaay in the lead. All those 3 or less HD DVD releases....

They've gotten quite brazen and blatant since the Paramount news.

I'm not sure how consistently beating the competitor by 2:1 is a weak argument for claiming a lead in the format wars.

It seems whatever small advantage HD DVD has or gets is trumpetted as vital to the success of HDM. That's weak.

Gary

P.S. Has the Paramount move changed your mind about getting a PS/3?

I think Blu-ray.com will be in attendance.

Other than that, the usual places, Engadget, Ars, Reghardware.

I find it humorous that at a site called "bluray.com" has people from the red camp coming in and being trolls. What, they don't have a good resource for themselves to gloat over how they are going to lose? LOL This is a BD site! If you love red so much, find some place else to go! Cause really, if you like to go to both, that's what AVS is for.

This comment really has no relation to the number of titles though. Sales are really going to be driven mainly by the number of potential customers first and then titles second.

The only way the margine would change is if HD DVD got more players on the market.
