December 16, 2009 - PlayStation Network will soon be getting another injection of nostalgia as Square-Enix plans to release the original Final Fantasy VIII as a downloadable title for PlayStation 3 in North America.

According to a consumer e-mail sent out this morning by Sony, the PlayStation classic from 1999 is "coming soon" to PSN, however, no additional details were provided.

The title was released in Japan earlier this year. We contacted Sony for more information and will update this post when we hear back.

Loved this game, can't wait to play it again and unlock all the "GF's"

this was the most dissapointing game ever! there were so many things wrong with this game.

I agree 100%, bring on FF VII. That would be awesome!

From my user name, it obvious that FF8 was my favorite FF game.

Might have something to do with, oh I don't know, being one of the most popular games on PlayStation. The universe doesn't revolve around you!

I'll admit there were parts of VIII that I think could have been done better(or at least handled differently), but taken as a whole it's probably my second favorite FF behind X.

I really enjoyed IX on the first playthrough, but it lost something the second time around (IMHO).

I really really enjoyed FFVIII except for the very end....then it just got weird. Everything up to that point, I really enjoyed.

Cool to hear; I'd probly just play my disc version again if I was up for another rundown.

Much all the clamoring for a remade FF7, a fully remade for PS3 version of 8 would be lazer awesome.

8 probably had the best story of them all, but I really don't like the Junction/Draw/Leveling implementation.

It's pretty strange that the way to become powerful is to stay as low level as possible, find ways to get high level cards regardless to use just for junctioning super-power.

Pretty odd when Petrify is probably the most powerful ability in the game because it stops you from getting XP.

I got this, and that stupidly addictive card game got me AGAIN. I spent like 2 hours already just playing the card game.
