Default IFA actually starts today

All the insanely cool blu-ray news that we read about thursday came from announcements made before the IFA even started. It starts today and lasts until the 5th of Sept.
I think that we're in for much more of the same over the next few days and I am ecstatic.

I think Europe should be excited. It seems many recent announcements have been geared for that marketplace. Including the Studio Canal announcement the other day.

I'm just hoping that many of these announcements mean the same for us in the US. Nonetheless it is good for Blu-ray all around.

Yeah and remember, people tend to think this war will be fought in the US only. While 300 million people in the US battle it out with HD vs Blu, the rest of the 5.7 billion people worldwide is slowly but surely turning blu.

We have VERY few players available in europe! so all these new players will do the format good! Aswell as the extra movies in the last quarter!

Actually outside of North America HD-DVD is very very far behind Blu-ray. In some European countries the factor is something like 90% Blu.

Exactly. People need to remember this more often.

HD-DVD is essentially DOA outright in several countries, as you cited.

Don't forget to include Japan, which is probably the world leader in electronics technology development. They are around 90% Blu too.

Good point. China as well will quickly become overwhelmingly Blu with the recent announcements.
