Default Larry (Sorry Lana) and Andy Wachowskis' Futuristic Iraq War Film

This looks slightly disturbing on several levels. Make up your own mind.

Quote:
What are those wacky Wachowskis up to now?

Slash Film is asking that very question today as they explore some recent tidbits of info which would seem to indicate that Matrix directors Andy and Lana (ne Larry) Wachowski are making a "secret futuristic war movie."

The story starts a few months back when Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington tweeted that she was shooting a part in a secret Wachowskis film -- "a movie about the Iraq War, from the perspective of the future." This info came complete with photos from the set featuring Huffington and the Wachowskis. Perhaps the info revealed about the movie in those tweets was mostly lost on the masses, however, as a result of the accompanying pic that featured a now apparently female Larry Wachowski. (And if you don't know about that whole transgendered saga, just google it.)

The thing is, there's been no official word about the famed sibling filmmakers making such a film. But yesterday Jesse Ventura was on The Howard Stern Show, during which time he mentioned that he had just finished filming a movie for the Wachowskis. He also told Stern that he didn't really know what the film was about, as he didn't have a script and the whole thing was done "ad-lib/improv."

"Wait til you hear what they did," said the wrestler/actor/governor. "They brought me, and they brought Arianna Huffington in after me. Arianna was there, and they had her looking like Cleopatra. What they did… Do you remember what John Travolta looked like in that horrible film Battlefield Earth? They put multicolored dreadlocks on me all the way to here. They gave me this crazy beard that was hanging down pointed, looked like Travolta, right? And they put a third eye in the middle of my forehead. Because what this is, is this is a hundred years in the future, and they wanted me to talk about the current war in Iraq and how I felt about it. And so I got to vent, looking like this maniac in this whole outfit."

So Larry is in the middle, right? Wow, so he did go through with it.....well heck, I'd do anything to hide my identity to after putting out 2 crappy Matrix sequels.

Jesse Ventura as a triclops? lol! You've got to be kidding me!

Here's some more info. I, too, have no desire to see something like this, based off it's description.

Quote:
Wachowskis Are Developing a 'Hard-R' Gay Iraq War Movie?!

Yep, you read that crazy headline right. You may have heard of this already, but if not, here are the latest details. Deadline is reporting from Cannes that the Wachowskis (Matrix, Speed Racer) are circulating a new script that is a "drama that focuses on a 'hard R' homosexual relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi." It's set somewhat in the future and the script is apparently cinema verite-style that "spans back over years that include the current war in Iraq." Apparently they want to direct this next and are currently looking for financiers, but that's apparently all we know about this. I honestly don't know how to respond.

We've actually heard about this before, because back in December some news leaked that the Wachowskis were shooting interview sequences for this mysterious futuristic Iraq war movie (which is where that photo of Arianna Huffington comes from). I'm really not sure what to think about this. I love, or maybe I should say, loved the Wachowskis, but this couldn't be farther from anything I wanted to ever see them make. This isn't even commercially sell-able, even though it is the Wachowskis, I can't think of anyone who wants to see this (do you?). I hope they pick something else, but I have no clue what'll happen. We'll keep you updated.

Sounds interesting. I may not like every little thing the Wachowskis' have done but you can't fault them for their passion, creativity, and technical know-how. I'd totally see this, as we need more intelligent Science Fiction films out there.

Off topic, but Lana looks pretty good. Not everybody who goes through that kind of procedure does. Glade she's happy.

i've got so many things i'd like to say about this but don't know where to begin!! and most aren't appropriate for an internet board.

i'll leave it @ this: absolutely no interest in seeing anything along these lines.

This could be a hard sell to get financing. Iraq war movies have done horribly at the box office. Even The Hurt Locker, which won Best Picture at the Oscars, did poorly at the box office, bringing in only $12 million. Adding in a homosexual angle doesn't help. The Wachowskis don't have the clout they used to anymore either. The last movie they directed, Speed Racer, bombed horribly. The last 2 Matrix movies were critical disappointments. Unless they plan on going lower budget then I see them struggling to get this made.

Considering how deftly they handled this type of subject matter with V for Vendetta, I'd be happy to support them by checking it out in the theater.

Seems to me it's already well into production based on the one article above.

I think so far they've just done some interviews with Huffington and Ventura, but hadn't started shooting the actual movie. The script is currently circulating at Cannes and they are looking for funding.

Thank you Orlando. I think writers are just as important as directors to a good film. Certainly they brought their view to the subject matter through the script. If I'm right, the siblings also chose McTeigue to direct. It's not like their involvement was minor.

Most films thus far about the Iraq War haven't done all that well from a financial standpoint, but you can't really throw The Hurt Locker into that group. With an estimated budget of $15 million, The Hurt Locker made approximately $16 million in the United States and a little over $40 million internationally. So it was a nice little success for the studio, but it goes without being said that this project by the Wachowski's is going to be a much harder sell.

Vulture has scored a copy of the script for Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski's controversial next film "Cobalt Neutral 9" and spilled some details:

The film will start a century into the future when digital archeologists discover "lost footage" from the U.S. occupation of Iraq. These clips from old digital cameras, phones and TV broadcasts are played and follow 'Butch', a handsome and gay Marine who wants to "f*%k and kill everything" in Iraq and ends up falling in love with an Iraqi soldier turned militant he meets while on combat patrol.

Along with some sex, Butch meets the Iraqi's family and accidentally draws attention to their home. This leads to a tragedy and the grieving pair attempt to stop the war by assassinating George W. Bush during one of his trips to Iraq. As for the title? "it's gibberish designed to inspire debate as to its meaning".

The Wachowski's are also simultaneously developing an adaptation of "Cloud Atlas" with Tom Tykwer penning the script. Whichever secures financing first will go ahead first.

So it's set in the future, where the obligatory "lost footage" is discovered. Wow, this sounds lame. Sorry Andy & Larry.....I mean Lana.....but you should've just stuck with your inner geek and did more sci-fi.

Wow. Sounds like an Uwe Boll movie. But aren't they just so edgy and cool? Whatever. Pass.
