I just watched Patton and the picture was very sharp. Made in 1970 but doesn't look like it. What a speech to start the film.

They will get here soon enough, maybe not, but they will get here. On the 11th Band of Brothers comes out, one of the best war movies (mini series) of all time. There are many more Windtalkers, Perl Harbor, U-571, Patton, We were Soldiers & The Great Raid to name a few.

It's too bad that Windtalkers is only the theatrical cut and not the extended cut.

We Were Soldiers still has lossy audio (way to go Warner Blunders) too bad ,as I really like this movie.

U-571 I'm told has great audio , but I refuse to buy it , as the story is a bastardization of the true historical facts. The producers/director rewrote history to make this film attractive to American audiences.

Battle of the Bulge , A Bridge Too Far , and Battle of Britain are all good movies on BLU.

Platoon , Apocalypse Now , Saving Private Ryan , The Guns of Navarone , Das Boot are all on my wish list.

Das Boot, please! And "They Were Expendable" the great story of PT boat heroes in the Philippines, a true story straight from the book by Ensign Bulkley (played by Robert Montgomery in the film).

"Black Book" is an excellent WW2 movie if you don't mind sub-titles.
The Thin Red Line would be nice some day as well as Laurence of Arabia and the English Patient

In theaters now (at least in Canada) is a movie titled Passchendaele.
When it comes to home video the battle scenes (Western Front in WW1) will be classic speaker destroyers. It is November 1917 in Belgium. A bit too much love story and not enough War but worth getting when it comes out.

Flags of our Fathers, Flyboys, and Two Flags to Iwo Jima are some movies I can think. They all have great soundtracks as well.

I agree, I thought that Patton looked great on Blu-ray. I hadn't seen the film since I saw it in the theaters.

I too loved this on BD, but did they really need to keep the intermission in the movie?

Well the only war film I currently own is Black Hawk Down. I'm surprised no one listed it.

Unless you live outside North America We Were Soldiers is Paramount. One of my favorite movies of all time is Black Hawk Down I also recommend The Black Book and Letters from Iwo Jima, Band of Brother (Nov. 11) one of the best Mini-Series of all time.

I would love to see Platoon, The Deer Hunter, Das Boot

Breaker Morant
Rescue Dawn

Patton and The Longest Day are great movies, unfortunately they have been DNR'd to death, so buyer beware on those titles in terms of PQ. I don't want another DNR debate here so suffice it to say that some don't mind DNR, but I do.

Don't forget the sound! The core of the track is overwhelming in places.

I should have included Black Hawk Down , but does it include all the extras that were on the 3 disc DVD ?
I just replaced my Flyboys dvd with the BD , great movie and great dts-ma soundtrack.
Another movie similar to Flyboys is "Der rote Baron" (The Red Baron) a 2007 movie, and so far only available from Amazon.de (Germany). It was filmed in English but for the German consumers they dubbed it in German (co-starring "Lena Headey" from the Sarah Connor Chronicles) Hopefully Warner will give it a region A release in lossless audio.

Now this film is MIA. Paul Verhoeven directed Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange) staring Rutger Hauer and Edward Fox from 1977 Netherlands. Three buddies who go their separate ways at the start of WW II. My first foreign movie.
