Talking Foreign Film Recommendations

I know there are lots of folks on here, who enjoy foreign films as like I do. I haven't seen a lot but I have enjoyed the ones I've watched. I was just wondering what foreign films you've seen and would recommend. I am currently really looking forward to the release of "Terribly Happy" cause that films looks like a Danish Twin Peaks! To give you an idea of the ones I've seen and liked here are a few titles:

Oldboy
Let The Right One In
District B13
Brotherhood of the Wolf
JCVD

I use netflix so I have access to a lot of foreign titles, so please let the recommendations fly. I've been curious about "Revanche" and "Thirst" and "Rec" has anybody seen them?

I've seen Thirst, but never heard of "Revanche". Thirst was alright, a bit slow and odd (even for that director). Glad I saw it, but I won't watch it again. Not nearly at the level of Oldboy.

I've been pretty fond of Korean movies over the last decade. The majority of my favourites are:

The Good, the Bad, the Weird
Brotherhood of War
The Chaser
Musa
A Bittersweet Life
The Host
City of Violence

Not sure if I like that Hollywood is trying to draw away some of Korea's top talent (which could be one of the reasons why there weren't any real stand outs in 2009).

I saw a couple of really great at WWII films lately out of Europe that I highly recommend:

Downfall
Black Book

Oh, and a pick that comes out of left field, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It is a mystery film from Sweden. I thought it was very well done (may have been the first film I've seen that, at least AFAIK, was Swedish).

If you like David Fincher's Seven then Memories of Murder is worth a shot.

Twilight Samurai is far superior to The Last Samurai.

Audition if you want something freaky.

3 Iron if you want a love story.

Le Samourai for some classic French film noir.

I highly recommend Thirst. It's very original and distinguishes itself from other vampire movies which is difficult to do these days. Just a heads up though, it is very sexual (I didn't expect that my first viewing).

Some foreign classics that everyone should see (I think most people have):
Seven Samurai
The Bicycle Thief
City of God

One I would highly recommend from Germany is The White Ribbon, it was the film that won the golden globe for best foreign film. Its a deeply disturbing study of a small rural village just before the onset of WW1 - A must see !!!!

Default Wish For More Foreign Blu Ray Titles

I own many foreign language blu ray titles. Some of my library consists of:

Red Cliff (Parts 1 & 2)
Brotherhood of War
IP Man
Warlords
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Perhaps Love
Fearless

I love martial arts films and war epics. Hopefully in 2010 we will get more great titles on Blu ray.

Review here John. Excellent movie. Lossy sound but as this is essentially a dialogue driven film, that shouldn't deter you. It plays without an issue (including extras) on my Region A PS3.

Graveyard of Honor. The best film by Takashi Miike.

Thanks qm! I thought I did a search on Downfall and it wouldn't come up. Must have typed it wrong...oh well.

Not a bad price either...gonna have a look for a few others and maybe place an order today! Glad to see it plays fine on the PS3. Any other foreign Region A flicks at a good price that you would recommend? May as well get a few!
