Talking Veronica Mars Movie

Having literally just finished rewatching all 3 seasons of Veronica Mars only yesterday, and for the first time ever watching the pitch that Rob Thomas made to the CW showing Veronica at the FBI I was very sad that we never got that season because the CW wrongly canceled it while holding a very steady 2.5 million viewers through all 3 seasons, and than today what do you know? Rob decides to talk about the movie again. Please let this happen, there are still lots of Veronica Mars fans out there who are waiting for this!

Quote:
Reports of the death of the Veronica Mars movie have been greatly exaggerated says show creator Rob Thomas. After its cancellation in 2007, fans have been clamoring to see a new mystery for the sardonic detective (played by Kristen Bell) to solve. A film version was believed to be dead after Bell said there was a script but Thomas denied it. Thomas has now clarified the situation to EW and says there was a treatment that he took to Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver, but the studio said there wasn’t enough awareness of the property to give a greenlight. However, Thomas says he’s still looking for a way to make the movie.

Hit the jump for Thomas’ comments on the built-in expiration date for the project and why I think this movie shouldn’t be so difficult to make.

Here’s what Thomas had to say about the ticking clock on a Mars movie:

“There is a bit of a ticking clock [because] Kristen Bell does continue to age,” he concedes of his 29-year-old leading lady. “And doing ‘teen detective’ [is a] dicey proposition. But frankly, I think Veronica Mars as a 30-year-old noir detective at some point in the future would still be interesting to me.

First, let me say that it’s a major revelation that Kristen Bell continues to age. Secondly, I don’t know why Thomas would even consider going towards “teen detective,” especially when his pitch for a fourth season of the show would have had Veronica as an FBI agent.

But I love the idea of Bell (who, to her credit, does not look anywhere near 29), playing a noir detective. It suits the character’s prickly personality and the dark storylines Thomas was willing to pursue during the show’s run. I also don’t think that kind of movie would have a large price tag. Bell’s latest movie, When in Rome, racked up $32 million domestic and I think her appeal combined with the pitch of a hot, jaded detective would sell to those who have never seen the show.

I do have one request of the movie: Thomas has to bring back Jason Dohring and Enrico Colantoni. They’re too great.

the last 3 years they have said they were going to make a movie. I dont think it will happen. I really want it to. I love the show and Kristen Bell. I just get tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. I hope soon it will come out. Even direct to dvd/blu-ray I would be happy with.

I know, just last night I was thinking I would prefer a straight to DVD/Blu-ray movie cause than not only would we maybe get all three seasons on blu, but there would be no delay in owning the movie. I am a huge V Mars fan and have been waiting 3 years now since it was very wrongly canceled for some justice, so please please Rob make this happen!

I think they would have enough fans to make a movie. Give it a 30 million dollar budget and it will do fine. I would watch it at least 3x in the theater.

The one big problem I had with Rob's pitch for the 4th season and something I would hope they'd change is that everyother cast member wasn't involved. Veronica was the only one who returned. And really you can't have the Veronica world without Keith, Wallace, Logan, Weevil, Dick, Cliff and Vinnie!

Yeah but they could only continue the Hearst storyline so long. OTH survived a 4 year jump into the future for awhile, there's no reason to believe VM wouldn't have as well.

Why not have new people. I could live without Dick and Vinnie.

I would have to disagree because for me that four year jump of OTH was the official end of any good that it had left. I didn't need for Veronica to show me the rest of the time at Hearst, but to remove all the great characters the show had created would have been a real let down, it was those people that helped make the show so excellent.

There could be some new people but to completely remove every single Veronica character from the show because she's in Virginia kinda sucks. She didn't go home to visit, or keep in touch with Mack, Wallace or her dad? I don't buy that. Vinnie was such a devious character I would have wanted to see what happened after the election and what I presumed to be Vinnie stealing Keith's job. Dick was always the one to make me laugh, Ryan Hansen was perfect in his role, which is why I'm so glad he is on Party Down, atleast through the end of this upcoming season anyways.

I cant see the movie working without Keith. The father daughter dynamic was one of the best things about the show.

I kinda thought the show was misunderstood by network brass. Wait, almost every show is misunderstood by the people running the networks. I thought pairing in the Gilmore Girls and trying to appeal to the young girl audience was a huge mistake. VM is a guys fantasy. The show took to task most of the females that the network hoped to attract.

Hope they do this. Would love to see what VM is up to.

Yeah Keith and Veronica worked beautifully, there is nothing Rob Thomas could write to make me think Veronica and Keith grew apart enough to where he was no longer a major character in her father. They never had the normal father/daughter relationship cause they where both way too smart for each other. I never understood the cancellation when the ratings where so consistent. They where a lot higher than the current current shows the CW renews so easily now, OTH, Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries.

I would disagree, although it is odd that it was paired like that, considering the person who ran the network at the time was one of Veronica Mars' biggest fans. That's also one of the reasons I'm surprised it "ended" the way it did, you'd think she would've done more to make sure VM received a proper send-off.

Sometimes I feel like the show was just wrongly stolen from me, and at other times I can't believe it has already been three years. We deserve a final ending, real closure to the show. The way season 3 ended was real sad, I felt sorry for Keith, and I'd like to know that he ended up alright. Also that Weevil was finally able to get his life together and got something better than college maintenance. Did Dick and Logan ever become anything, or was Logan killed by the Russian kids connected family, after he beat him down in the cafeteria? Was Wallace a successful engineer? So many questions and we deserve answers Dawn Ostroff!!!!

Such a great show. Would love to see it on Blu-ray some day.

It's been a while since i watched it. I actually didn't remember it had many loose endings, but reading this thread it all comes back to me. So yeah, it would be nice to give the show some real closure.

Will the Veronica Mars Movie Ever Happen? Kristen Bell Says It's Up to Us

Quote:
Kristen Bell is adorable, that's for sure.

We had a short 'n' sweet catch-up sesh with her after she and Robert Verdi gave a trio of ladies makeovers on behalf of Marshalls and Dress for Success' Unlock the Shopportunity campaign. Needless to say, we were happy to hear her thoughts on female empowerment, but we made sure to try and press her on the bigger issues—you know, the Veronica Mars movie, Party Down, Heroes, Parenthood and a particular star of that last show (fiancé Dax Shepard, duh!).

She might be cute, but she's also coy…

While wedding questions were out of the question, we did our best to squeeze from her what we could.

Any news on the Veronica Mars movie? Is it ever gonna happen, and are you still game?
I wish I had news. Still in the process of campaigning to tell Warner Bros. that people would actually see it. I think that as long as you guys keep asking those questions and I keep answering them, Warner Bros. will one day get the picture that everybody does want it and that it will make its money back. I think, truthfully, they're a company and they want to know that they'll make their return back. We just have to convince them that they will.

It's been I believe 3 years since it went off the air, I don't think they could get enough of the cast back to make this worthwhile.

Well if you watched the season 4 pitch they shot, that was included on the season 3 DVD, you'd see it only featured Veronica and she was at Quantico so really unless she came home to visit it would be focused on her FBI career.

I'm glad that never happenned. It would not have been the same without Keith and Logan. Although anything to get rid of Piz.
