How Quickly We Forget...

After seeing all of the "Paramount", "Transformers", and "I'm going neutral" threads, I just needed to rant...

I find it amusing that there's a bump in the road and all of a sudden people are like "Game Over", "Time to go neutral", etc. WTF? Not even close. It doesn't get anymore objective than facts and data. Blu-Ray has so much momentum right now, it's really going to be difficult to for HD-DVD to catch-up and we haven't even hit the holidays yet.

What cracks me up, is that things are so much better right now than they were in the early days of BD. The old-timers here will remember how rough it was in the beginning. I'm not trying to come off as holier-than-thou or like I've been here since the very beginning, but I know we've come a long way because I have experienced it first-hand...

-The early BD titles looked like crap. Better yet, a lot of folks here had the balls to admit it and demanded better. They didn't just blindly praise the format like some of the HD-DVD crowd.
-The single player on the market was glitchy, took forever to load, came shipped with the NR chip on, had that horrid DTS judder issue, and it cost $1000. I know because I own one.
-HD-DVD was outselling Blu-Ray in both titles and standalone players.
-There were all the Market Research studies that were saying HD-DVD had all the positive buzz online, etc.
-Virtually all the reviews in the magazines giving lackluster ratings to Blu-Ray and one even proclaimed HD-DVD as the product of the year.
-Fox wasn't releasing titles yet.
-Hell, we didn't even have Paramount in the beginning!

Then, 4th Quarter rolled around and everything changed.

Bottom line...people need to stop whining. If folks want to go format neutral or dump Blu-Ray altogether. Just do it. Why sit here and create thread after thread of endless prognosticating, hypothesizing, and complaining? Go throw down your cash on that next Super-China-Multi-Combo-Blue-Red-Player and be done with it. It'll make you happy because you don't have to choose, and it'll make me happy because I don't have to hear about it
