After seeing all of the "Paramount", "Transformers", and "I'm going neutral" threads, I just needed to rant...

I find it amusing that there's a bump in the road and all of a sudden people are like "Game Over", "Time to go neutral", etc. WTF? Not even close. It doesn't get anymore objective than facts and data. Blu-Ray has so much momentum right now, it's really going to be difficult to for HD-DVD to catch-up and we haven't even hit the holidays yet.

What cracks me up, is that things are so much better right now than they were in the early days of BD. The old-timers here will remember how rough it was in the beginning. I'm not trying to come off as holier-than-thou or like I've been here since the very beginning, but I know we've come a long way because I have experienced it first-hand...

-The early BD titles looked like crap. Better yet, a lot of folks here had the balls to admit it and demanded better. They didn't just blindly praise the format like some of the HD-DVD crowd.
-The single player on the market was glitchy, took forever to load, came shipped with the NR chip on, had that horrid DTS judder issue, and it cost $1000. I know because I own one.
-HD-DVD was outselling Blu-Ray in both titles and standalone players.
-There were all the Market Research studies that were saying HD-DVD had all the positive buzz online, etc.
-Virtually all the reviews in the magazines giving lackluster ratings to Blu-Ray and one even proclaimed HD-DVD as the product of the year.
-Fox wasn't releasing titles yet.
-Hell, we didn't even have Paramount in the beginning!

Then, 4th Quarter rolled around and everything changed.

Bottom line...people need to stop whining. If folks want to go format neutral or dump Blu-Ray altogether. Just do it. Why sit here and create thread after thread of endless prognosticating, hypothesizing, and complaining? Go throw down your cash on that next Super-China-Multi-Combo-Blue-Red-Player and be done with it. It'll make you happy because you don't have to choose, and it'll make me happy because I don't have to hear about it

Maybe it's just me?

It isn't just you. I chose Blu-ray based on a sound decision and solid research of what would make me and my home theater needs happiest. I didn't jump on Blu-ray because I thought it would win (Even though I know it will), but rather because I truly believe it is the superior technology and capable for the future of HD to come.

I won't let one bump in the road like Paramount sway my decision. As far as I am concerned there are so many positives with Blu-ray that losing one studios support is a mere irritation and not a deal breaker for me.

I totally agree. I did get pretty down the other night when I read that Anchorman and Old School were coming out on HD-DVD....but whatever. Never once have I thought about going "neutral". But really, Disney is going nowhere, Fox is going nowhere, Sony is going nowhere. There are some really awesome things happening with Blu...who cares about Dreamworks and Paramount.

I wouldn't use the word amusing, it's sad.

I still want some news to come out of Sony or the BDA. We now have Blu-Ray enthusiasts turning away from the format. We are only a small vocal portion of the Blu-Ray buyers but those numbers will add up.

Disney is even more paranoid about protecting their IP and products then Fox, with HD-DVD not having the ability to prevent piracy, I don't expect to see them leaving Blu. Besides, they have so much invested in it, their road show is a very small example.

exactly...BD is in this to be the only format in 3-4 years...

HD DVD is there to make MS's downloads seem like the more convenient option in 3-4 years...

One of my top 10 favorite movies. I'd really like to see it or Gozu make it to Blu-Ray, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I liked how you put it, I as many have been new I just got active in blu-ray in march, and got really active this summer as thing started to heat up, I am anticipating the holidays as I expect we will trounce HD-DVD.

The said I think the concern other have isn't that HD-DVD will win, if we look at the Nielsen/VideoScan Weekly Sales Numbers we see that we are consistantly in the mid to late 60's% while is HD-DVD is mid to low 30's%. My concern is that HD-DVD will last long enought for combo player adoption, ensuring the survival of both formats.

On the surface this may not seen like a bad thing bad what if the studio's encode the HD-DVD version and use that on the Blu-ray disc as well, effectively no differance between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray even tho Blu-ray could be put to better use. That's my main concern.

HD DVD isn't going to die in the next 2 years. That alone is enough to convince me to own what I've currently owned. Why? Because I want films from Universal and Paramount for the next 2 years. In 2 years I'll buy something new. I'm pretty much use to the idea of buying new systems or setups when 2 years roll around. Been doing that for my TV and PC for the last 10 it appears. So in 2 years you might be able to say what ever it is you wanna say.

but there isnt a real point for doing that because if blu-ray wins which it will then you can just watch those movies in hd-dvd and then when the blu-ray version comes out after blu wins then its like having to buy it again
