Japan Gamera coming to Blu-ray!

Every Gamera movie from the early years to the 90's trilogy is coming out on blu ray!

http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/n...403_80398.html

Gamera Showa Series:
Box 1 http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0024DGNKC
*Box 2 http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0024DGNKW
*There's a price mistake on Box 2! It's below 4,000 yen! Hurry and pre-order now and I think they'll have to honor that price.

Gamera Heisei Series(90's Trilogy):

Box http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0024DGNM0

Trilogy Box is roughly $90 with Amazon Japans price. The 2 blu ray boxes for the Showa series are roughly $120, but Box 2 has a price mistake!

And yes, all of them are being released separately as well. No word on English subs yet.

Showa Series Box 1:

Showa Series Box 2:

Heisei Series(90's Trilogy.. just the one box):

Thanks for the terrific TIP on these Gamera BD sets.

Changing topic slightly: have you heard any updates on Godzilla coming to blu-ray disc?

Please post as soon as you find out.

Thanks.

No, but I'm sure they'll be releasing them in sets either by the end of this year or next year. The Gamera blu ray sets coming out is a great sign though!

Here's some small screencaps of an older Gamera film, courtesy of Ian Friedman of HK Film News:

Forgot to mention that another Kaiju franchise is coming to blu ray! The Daimajin trilogy will be out a month before the Showa sets. You can look at that box set in the first link in the first post.

Screencaps to the 1966 film, GAMERA vs. BARUGON:
*Please note that even though it looks a little "flickery" it still looks a lot better then the standard Japanese DVD release. Plus, these are compressed JPG images, which take away quality.. so it'll look a lot better anyway, while watching it.*

this is such amazing news, thankyou for sharing it with us. i dread to think what he godzilla blu ray box sets will run price wise, the dvd sets are expensive enough and i bet there will be no english subs again. fingers crossed, any word on them releasing the magma taishi series on blu ray, the dvd set is insanely priced to import. thanks again.

I know Cookson's av is Godzilla from the original proposed remake by Jan De Bont. If the Gamera Blu's have subs, I'm in. I did used to have all the Showa films on PD DVD which were horrible full screen transfers. But my little brother got a hold of them when he was little and scratched them all up. Alas, the only Gamera films I have is a DVD-R recording off television of Gamera: The Guardian of the Universe and the HK R3 import of Gamera: The Brave. Too bad there's not a BD for that one in the works.

if you are interested in the original showa gamera films, go to monsters in motion site and searh for gamera, they have all the original japanese prints on dvd with english subs, they are a put together set but they are amazing dvd quality with english subs. just thought you might want to know, i would love to own this set but i seriously doubt they are going to have subs with it.

Just goto adc asian dvd club people have uploaded the r2 dvds and custom subbed them.

Also over at cdjapan the Gamera sets say no subtitles but maybe that will change don't count on it though.

Actually if you go here and look at each movie they all say no English subtitles and No English audio.
