Canada Mortal Kombat on Blu-ray?

Just noticed that Amazon.com has two new placeholders for MK and MK: Annihilation on blu ray. Anyone know anything about these possibly coming?

Yes, the films suck compared to the games, but to me they're mildly enjoyable.

Don't count on it. The next game is going to damage the franchise beyond repair and alienate enough of the fanbase that it'll be cancelled before it can be released.

Speak not its name let it appear and destroy us

Seriously, if the other games since MK3 haven't killed the franchise, nothing will

I dont think MK vs DC will do that much damage. And they have kinda been hinting at or trying to work on a new movie for Years. Even before the Kung Lao show was on.

I played that, for Genesis. Being an MK and Sub Zero fan, I actually kinda liked it. I never played the Sonya and Jax one on PS1.

Then you were the only damn one who did, that game was beyond awful, and impossible without cheating.

I hope these two movies come out on Blu-Ray. I purchased these on DVD back in 1999. Not the best movies, but being a fan of MK, this is a must have for me.

Alliance releases cataloged movies a lot earlier than the U.S. does. Most of the time if the film is in 2.35, it's cropped to 1.78. But, luckily, Mortal Kombat and it's sequel were both in 1.85 so, it's good to get, I assume.

So there would be no reason to wait for a U.S. release in relation to quality?

A behind the scenes making of and commentary track already exist for the first film, so having them on the BD would be wise. Some of the CG in the film looked rather basic, even in 1995. BD won't do it any favours, i think. Still a great video game adaptation, nonetheless.

Alliance is known for making 1080i releases over 1080p. The reason why it's 1080i is because they just take HD broadcasts and put those on Blu-ray. WB will probably make a decent release of the film, but there's been no announcement for a U.S. release.

I would never buy an Alliance title. I have never heard good things from them, so I will wait for a US release.

And as far as a third movie is concerned, there have been increasing talks on rebooting the series, and many high octane martial artists (including Donnie Yen!!) have been in consideration.

Of course, Donnie Yen has been getting a zillion movie offers because he is dynamite in Asia (the teaser trailer for Ip Man 2 is up at kungfucinema), so it may just be speculation.
