I cant imagine how BDA will counter this. Just when I thought things may be going down hill this happens. Now it is a full on avalanche.

Instead of a picture of the phaser.. more funny would be pictures of the people who buy it.

How many of you actually like TOS though?

If it were Blu, all you guys would be going on how cool it is. It's cool, it's just not "$220 upgrade" cool

I love TOS, and this was the main reason I was disappointed with the Paramount announcement....but I would not want that remote control in my house. I prefer having a girlfriend.

I love everything Star Trek, and this was a major reason why I was REALLY annoyed with Paramount's decision.

However I refuse to buy stuff in these huge bulky boxes, so wouldn't buy the TOS boxset even if it were coming out on BD. Problem is they take too long to release them in decent size packaging, e.g. Voyager is only just coming out in the UK later this month in their so-called slimline packaging. It has taken them so long to do this that I'm not going to buy them because I'm only buying BD from this point on. Hopefully they'll release BD versions in reasonable sized packaging well before we've moved on to whatever comes after BD.

It would be cool if it came with a player I wanted to buy anyway, but I would never buy a player just to get that remote. That's just stooopid.

No way in hell I would ever admit that, even if I did like Startrek....my comment above says that I sure hope Fox/BDA dont go as low throwing in a Light Saber plastic gadget with Bluray players if they do release Starwars on BD...that would be hilarious....I would laugh at this just as hard...

Seriously no offense to any Trekkies or Starwars fans...I just thought this plastic piece of junk was hilarious!!! I guess they wanna bundle in a plastic piece of junk phaser with another plastic piece of junk HDDVD player.

Same thing I was thinking. Despite what a lot of people here may think, this boxset is going to sell relatively well, due to the fact that there is only a HD-DVD Combo version being released. There are many Star Trek fans out there that will be purchasing this boxset regardless of what it maybe priced. The only thing that sucks is that the HD-DVD fanboys are going to be bragging about their sales when in actuality only 5% of the sales might be used in HD-DVD players.

I love TOS as well, although I am REALLY a big TNG fan.

You've got a good point on how if it was blu a ton of people would be ranting on how cool it is.

It's a cool little promo, but I'm ready to wait 18 months for the possibility of having it on blu, phaser or no phaser (besides...you can buy a phaser remote from elsewhere...or if you simply want a phaser, go to http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/cubegoodies/8506/)

I read that when they were showing this stuff they (CBS, Paramounted, HD propoganda group?) were actually dressed up like Trek dorks.

I'm a fan of only the original series, but not on my I have to buy it list. If it ever came to Blu ray I would likely pick it up, but not in a goofy box set with the nerd attachment.

If Fox and BDA team up to offer a light-saber, it'll be a functional light-saber.

Yes, I'll take my saber in the color Blu.

Is David Vaughn around? Could he give us some yield numbers on these remotes?

I think David would prefer to speculate how future 'Phaser remote' yield numbers may become a major (negative) issue for the HD DVD camp for reason or reasons, completely made up, relating to scalability of the market.
