The only video they want you to have is bought from iTunes. If you have an Apple computer then you can use "Handbrake" and it'll allow you to rip any video into the iPod. I use it for my iPhone. I have about 6 full length DVD's on the iPhone.

Does that help at all? Not sure what you mean about settings needed for it....

But is that what you're trying to do...... you are looking to put videos on the iPod, correct? or are you looking for something else?

Yeah, recode Avi files from less than legal sources or ripped from my DVD collection.

Hi Max,

The Nano's tech specs already provide some basic info on the allowed codecs and video formats.

The most common profile is :
H.264 video with a .m4v, .mp4 or .mov file format
The H.264 Baseline profile must be used
640x480 pixels at a bitrate up to 1.5 Mbps
AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz

Quicktime Pro offers a number of automated presets to convert existing videos in iPod's friendly formats, and the conversion can be pretty fast if you have a powerful PC. If you don't want to pay for an upgrade, there should be plenty of freewares or sharewares with conversion presets.

Make sure that you check the iLounge forums and FAQs -- it's one of the best websites for iPods in the world.

Finally, once you have converted some videos, a good rule of thumb is to drag-and-drop them into iTunes. If the program can read them, there's a pretty good chance that your iPod will too.

I wish I could be more specific, but unfortunately I'm on a Mac.

DVD Fab will also allow you to rip your current DVD's to ipod videos and import them via iTunes.

Max,
you can use Handbrake to convert your dvds to mpeg4. it is available on windows or osx and is free. Nero digital will convert your avi movies if you have nero.

Grats to you! It looks awesome.

I have the old one I was able to get for free with my mac. I've already filled it up though. My advice is choose wisely!
