Default Need help with my setup

I have a PS3 and the Sony Bravia DAV-HDX500 htib. I am wondering why the sound coming out of the dvds i play through the built in dvd player sound more powerful than the blu ray movies through the PS3. I changed the settings on the PS3 to bitstream from linear pcm because someone told me I need to do that but I still don't think the sound is as good. Can anyone help me with any settings I might need to change or is blu ray audio not as powerful? It occurs especially in the bass. Thanks!

What cables are you using? Also most movies don't default to LPCM so you have to change it in the language selection. This usually makes a big diff, especailly in the volume range

Does it have the ability to passthrough 1080p. I actually bought a new receiver because it couldn't decode LPCM and it didn't have an HDMI input.

no it doesn't, my ps3 video is hooked up straight to the tv, its not an actual receiver. It is a home theatre in a box with a audio in optical. Here is a link

the ps3 is hooked up directly to the tv via hdmi, the ps3 is then wired to the audio in optical on the receiver.
