Default Would you buy HD DVDs if Blu-ray lost?

In the unlikely event that Blu-ray loses, would you buy an HD DVD player? I would not, I would go HD VMD like GaS . I will never support HD DVD!

You wouldn't support an inferior format, so you would support the even more inferior format?

I'd just go back to DVD, but only for the movies I could not live without. There is no point supporting an inferior HDM product. That's what cable is for.

I'm just seeing what people would do, I'm not trying to start an argument. I hope HD DVD rots in the bowls of Hell.

I think most of us know you mean well...my comments were just in general. Seeing these kinds of threads in the context of a bunch of Warner FUD and the rest of it all at once just gets to me.

Nothin' personal.

VMD is actually better than HD-DVD:

DUD: 15G x 2 layers, 36Mbps
VMD: 4.7G x 10 layers, 45Mbps
BD: 25G x 2 layers, 54Mbps

I think it's best if this thread gets locked.

You make a good point.

If Blu-ray loses and ALL the studios go HD-DVD, including Sony, then yeah, I would buy an HD-DVD player because I would no longer have a choice.

If Blu-ray dies then which will be the superior format: DVD or HD-DVD?
To support DVD at this point is taking a backward step in audio/video evolution. To go from Blu-ray to HD-DVD is not such a big step back, even though most of us here say that "HD-DVD is crap compared to Blu-ray." I'll tell you what, HD-DVD is NOT that bad of a format. You can quote me on that. If I was only given two choices at retail: DVD or HD-DVD - I would choose HD-DVD every time.

Fortunately, we still have Blu-ray and I'm still making sure I buy AT LEAST 1-2 titles per week, sometimes more, in order to support the format that is technically better and that I FEEL has more to offer in the long run. Blu-ray is a large step above HD-DVD, but HD-DVD and Blu-ray are both leaps and bounds above DVD.

Well... since we're discussing fantasy land (and HDDVD win), I can't say I'm as disapointed as I would be "settling" for HDDVD as in missing what we could have in Blu-ray.

So yes, I would buy HDDVD. Much much more than I'm buying it now, though still less than I'm currently buying Blu.
