Default HD VMD article

Should we be worried about this?

According to the article, the format will do 40mbps, which is "quite a bit more than" HD DVD's 36mbps.

So, if the 4mbps is "quite a bit more," I guess the +8mbps difference Blu-Ray has over this new format (and +12mbps over HD DVD) is what, light-years ahead?

I remember buying a DVD player when they first came out. You basically paid $700ish for a decent player. Movies were above current Blu-Ray movie prices.

As time went on, the prices came down. Heck, $20-$25 for a movie was dirt cheap. The same thing will happen here.

And yeah, good luck competing against Sony, M-soft and others from all different angles.

Talk about not picking your battles wisely.

What I like is when they say when big film industries see it selling well that they'll start releasing on it as well. Yea, well that was a dumb statement after seeing disney, fox and sony devoting so much to Blu-ray, yea sure they'll just ditch it and go to this "new" cough cough format.....stupid vmd people.

Great idea, let's introduce a new HD format (number 3!) which doesn't offer any advantage to the consumer over what's already out there.

Am I missing something here?

Default do not worry

no matter what one person suggests or a bad press week, Blu-Ray is not leaving. The worst case would be dual formats, not likely. This war will go through next year, just enjoy your favorite movies and think blu thoughts. Support is all you need, and blu has plenty.

That article was biased against HD DEAD and Blu-Ray. It said that HD VMD would have 40mbps or whatever, which was in spitting distance of Blu-Ray's 48, Than it said HD VMD's 40mbps was quite a bit more than HD DVD's 36mbps. How is 8 within spitting distance and 4 is quite a bit more?

This is like a fight in a neighborhood between two tough guys and then some dufus comes along and starts antagonizing the two fighters. The two fighters are likely to stop fighting each other long enough to beat the shit out of the dufus.

VMD has come too late. The battle lines have been drawn with the major movie studios picking their side (okay WB is doing both). A third format will be ignored.

Ignored that is until hd-dud is in its last death throes. I could see Toshitba and Microshit adopting VMD as a last ditch effort to kill Blu.

Actually they have to fit 4 on the disc now: HD DVD, Blu-Ray, DVD, and HD VMD.
