USA A Lizard in a Woman's Skin (Lucio Fulci) coming from Mondo Macabro!

A Lizard in a Woman's Skin Blu-ray

A Lizard in a Woman's Skin Blu-ray (Limited Edition)

Quote:
Mondo Macabro is very proud to present A Lizard In A Women's Skin, released in HD on Blu-ray for the very first time in North America.

Carol Hammond, the frustrated wife of a successful London lawyer, is having bizarre, erotic dreams about her uninhibited neighbor, Julia Durer, who presides over noisy, sex and drug filled parties in the house next door. One night, Carol's dreams culminate in violent death and she wakes to find her nightmares have become reality - Julia has been murdered and Carol is the main suspect. This frightening discovery is just the beginning of a labyrinthine psycho sexual shocker which takes the viewer on a wild ride through a series of frequently breathtaking set pieces that set new standards for the Italian thriller.

This first US Blu-ray release of the film, taken from the original negative, is the longest uncut version currently available and it comes with a host of exclusive extras. Directed by controversial film maker Lucio Fulci (The New York Ripper, House by the Cemetery, Zombie), Lizard in a Woman's Skin is considered by many critics to be his finest achievement.

Special Features:

Complete version of the feature, 104 minutes 11 seconds, with alternative English and Italian audio tracks with newly created English subtitles.
Documentary Shedding the Skin, with optional commentary from director Kris Gavin. (34 minutes).
When Worlds Collide - Interview with Stephen Thrower author of Beyond Terror: the film of Lucio Fulci. (30 minutes).
Dr Lucio Fulci's Day for Night: An interview with Lucio Fulci. (30 minutes)
From Burton to Baker - interview with actor Tony Adams about his experiences of working on the film. (11 minutes).
Feature Length audio commentary with Pete Tombs and Kris Gavin.
Radio spots for the Schizoid release of the film.
Alternative Italian title sequence.
Original Trailers
Limited edition, limited to 999 numbered copies.
The LE in a red case will have an 8-page full color booklet written by Troy Howarth, author of the forthcoming book Splintered Visions: Lucio Fulci and his films.
Reversible sleeve.

Huh. I wonder if they licensed Studiocanal's upcoming transfer or something. If the release looks as good as that one, I'll be all over this. I'm surprised they got this, since I thought I heard rights for this were quite expensive compared to the vast majority of old Italian genre flicks.

What's Mondo Macabro's track record in regards to PQ? It looks like only two of their discs have reviews on this site. Looks like those two are at least far better than Raro!

Barring source limitations and imperfections, the PQ on their releases is usually very good. It also helps that they use the same encoder as Arrow.

I think that this is the release to go for, rather than Studio Canal.

Assuming it has the same extras, yeah definitely. I don't want to contend with possible forced subtitles and 1080i/50hz extras on that release if I don't have to

I'm a Fulci maniac but never cared for this film. Too "psychedelic" for my tastes

My favorites:

Don't Torture A Duckling
Four of the Apocalypse
Zombie
The Psychic
City of the Living Dead
House By the Cemetery
The Beyond
Manhattan Baby
Murder Rock
Door To Silence. This one gets a bad rap but I found it quite enjoyable (and surprisingly well made)

Will be picking up. The more that can be rescued from Raro the better.

Weird. You certainly like all his phases, so that is surprising! Do you also dislike Perversion Story (since that has some psychedelic touches)?

DTAD and The Psychic are about tied with Lizard for me as my favorites, with "The Beyond" a close fourth. I didn't like Lizard at all on first viewing really, it took another watch or two to "click." Part of it was realizing the plot behind those crazy visuals is actually pretty coherent and clever compared to most of his later movies. I REALLY like it now. I can't wait for this release, good for Mondo Macabro that they scored such a major film.

in the MM thread, Jared confirms same master as french release but with David Mackenzie encoding (the usual Arrow encoder) and also states that MM's extras will be 'more compelling'.

Mackenzie doing the compression certainly makes this one immediately more appealing. That and no import pricing and the hope of better extras.

So glad this has been announced. I like my UK DVD for the movie, but I'm ready to give it a rest.

We should have a bunch of news on this title in the near future. We're looking to go into production on this one soon so we should be able to announce the full specs in a week or two.

Likely this will be a limited edition BD first, available only through our webstore and maybe Diabolik DVD. A standard edition release will follow next year. Something like that, anyway.

We'll probably make the announcement through this site, so be on the lookout!

I hope you guys are getting every bit of HD footage you can to make this the best release possible. Michael Mackenzie noted a lot of missing frames on the French BD so you'd better be using that knowledge.

Yeah, we've been working with him and a few other people to sort this puzzle out. Sadly we are having trouble finding film sources to use for the missing footage. We have one option left after that and then we'll be forced to use an SD source. If that is the case you will be able to watch the film with or without the additional footage.
