Question HDMI certified cables?

My friend who is just entering the HD market did a little research on HDMI cables, and found this site...

http://ca.denon.com/2082.asp

I am not sure how accurate the info is, or how up-to-date, but according to this, there are only 4 brands of certified HDMI cables, and some big names, like Monster, aren't even on the list!
Is this true? Or is there a more up-to-date list?

Just like any certification process... there is a licensing cost that gets passed along to the consumer. Denon itself has a/v receievers that are best of breed and are not THX certified. That still does not mean they are anything less than "par exellence".

That is exactly what I assumed. Just like other certifications, they might not even mean much if you have them.
I just wanted to check to see if there was anything else to this. I told him that it is likely not a widely used certification.

Yep. Stick with MonoPrice and the like. You'll be fine. Remember...it's a digital signal!! You would be shocked to see how much crappy old CAT5 is down in the bowels of the Telcos...but the internet keeps running just fine.

I agree. MonoPrice has 1.3a certified HDMI cables for less than $30. I bought some expensive top of the line Monster "certified" cables ($200+) a few months back and they don't even work with my Blu-ray play and new XBR4 LCD. I had to resort to using the free HDMI cable that came with my Sat box until my order for the 1.3a certified HDMI cables from MonoPrice shows up.
