Default More Blu shelves at my Best Buy!

So today I went to Best Buy to do my part as a soldier in this war and pick up a couple of movies (Warner movies at that), when to my surprise they increased the blu-ray shelf space. Now there are 3 sections for blu and 2 for DUD! Also there is an additional mini-rack that is front and center when you walk into the store with only blu-ray movies in it.

Naturally this made me happy, so i took a picture of it with my phone:

Oh..I bought The Departed and Beerfest. DAS BOOT!!!

And yet it still amazes me how those HD DVD supporters are convienced they are going to win this ...

Best Buy I used to work at still has equal number of shelves, but the HD DVD side is really thinned out and the Blu Ray side is crammed ... only reason they did it like this was to make the display symmetrical but looks horrible on HD DVD side because it is barren and empty, and its not from them selling them because Blu Ray outsells HD DVD big time in that store.

Default My Local CC & Target

This thread makes me think a new sticky thread should be created, one where people on patrol can report their findings on Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD in the retail market and possibly elsewhere. Call it "Blu-Bloods on Patrol." People can report and posting pictures of what they find at the retail stores and rental shops.

I went to my local Target and Circuit City. At Target, Blu had 3 columns. HD DVD had 2. At CC, Blu had about 65% of the shelf space. Some of the HD DVD space was filled in by 2 Matrix box sets. They take a lot space compared to a single disc.

That looks just like VHS. Beta went down to about the size of HD-DVD then suddenly they stopped selling it.

Just hope that the average consumer that has no idea about the two formats doesn't walk up and presume that the HD-DUD side is selling more because of the empty shelf space. I've actually seen this happen with other items.

That's a good sign. Hopefully as time goes on, HD DVD's side will shrink away little-by-little.

If you were sitting on the fence and hadn't committed to either format yet, having more blu-ray titles to choose from would be a pretty compelling factor.

Well big difference in the 2 are that on blue ray side there are tons of titles to chose from, the HD DVD doesn't have that many to pick from...but smart consumer will ask which is doing better before buying, and I know people in that store will say Blu-ray ...if the consumer doesn't ask, well they are just as ****ing stupid as an HD DVD supporter and should jump on the ship just to sink with it anyways

I went to one of my local Best Buys and a notice a difference favoring Blu-Ray. Previously, Blu-Ray and HD DVD both had two sections with 5 fives in each section. Now Blu-Ray still has two sections, but has taken an additional two rows from HD DUD. Consequently, DUD has eight total rows, and Blu-Ray 12.

where is this store? all I know is I take a glance at the store in mission valley right in the middle of san diego and it blows on size, selection and prices, so I end up going to frys. seriously they have a end cap kind of deal split down the middle for both formats and then a separate display stand slung way out in the middle of nowhere that you have to go search for because they cant seem to keep it in one place.

My Best Buy is 3/2 in favor of Blu Ray as far as shelf space goes, plus 2 end caps with movies. It was also very picked over with almost everything sold out, and the hd side was stocked. Every time I've been in there looking at movies, I always have someone else there looking at blu rays too.

Shelf displays are based on your area, they takes sales and other numbers to determine how much space to allow your store, I believe they do it on a district stand point. So if your in an area that does not sell much HD movies they are really lax with how they lay it out. Like me living in Atlanta and HD is a big deal here, shit we even have the first news station to broadcast in HD, they make sure to set up more presentable displays and keep it a priority.

In the Hawaii Best Buys they're doubling the Blu Ray shelf space. The stocker also reports that they're selling really well there, and they still can't keep 300 on the shelf.
