Default Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection (1960-2019)

Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection Blu-ray

So I saw this over on Facebook. No names on the list that I recognize, but I'm always down for more regional horror schlock!

Quote:

*David Gregory's 2019 documentary "Blood & Flesh: The Real Life & Ghastly Death Of Al Adamson" will also be included in the set

*Release Date TBA

*Commentaries, Featurettes, and other Special Features TBA
Special Features (spoilered for length)

[Show spoiler]Special Features/Disc Breakdown:

Disc 1: Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life & Ghastly Death of Al Adamson/The Female Bunch
Aspect Ratios: Blood & Flesh: 1.77:1 / Female Bunch: 1.66:1
Audio: Blood & Flesh: 5.1 & 2.0 English / Female Bunch: English, German & Spanish Mono
Subtitles: Blood & Flesh: English Closed Captions, Optional French & Spanish Subtitles / Female Bunch: English Closed Captions

Transfer notes: The Female Bunch was scanned and restored from several faded 35mm release prints of varying physical condition. The negative is believed lost. Every effort was made to use the least damaged sections of each print to ensure the best possible image quality throughout.

Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life & Ghastly Death of Al Adamson Special Features:
*Outtakes - The Cowboy Life Of Denver Dixon, Russ Tamblyn's Melted TV, Manson & Screaming Angels, The Prophetic Screenplay Makes Gary Kent Testify, and Beyond This Earth Promo Reel
*Trailer

The Female Bunch Special Features:

*Trailers

Disc 2: Psycho A Go-Go/Fiend with the Electronic Brain/Blood of Ghastly Horror
Aspect Ratios: Psycho A Go-Go 2.35:1, Fiend 2.35:1, Blood of Ghastly Horror: 2.35:1
Audio: English Mono for all
Subtitles: English Closed Captions for all

Transfer notes: Psycho A-Go-Go was reconstructed from a variety of elements, including the original Techniscope negative, for sequences it shares with BLOOD OF GHASTLY HORROR. Other sequences were sourced from a variety of good condition 35mm IB Technicolor prints. One short section (less than one minute) could only be found in a water damaged 16mm reduction print.

Fiend with the Electronic Brain was reconstructed from a variety of elements, including the original Techniscope negative, for sequences it shares with BLOOD OF GHASTLY HORROR as well as various 35mm IB Technicolor prints for PSYCHO A GO-GO, using a 16mm print as reference. The 16mm reduction print was used for the same short section from PSYCHO A GO-GO which could not be found in any 35mm element.

Blood of Ghastly Horror was scanned and restored from its 2-perf 35mm Techniscope camera negative. The main and end titles, which were missing in all pre-print elements, were sourced from a 35mm answer print.

Psycho A Go-Go Special Features:

Disc 3: Halfway to Hell/Five Bloody Graves
Aspect Ratios: Halfway 1.77:1, Five Bloody 2.35:1
Audio: English Mono for all
Subtitles: English Closed Captions for all

Transfer notes: Halfway to Hell has never been on home video anywhere in the world and was thought lost. A 35mm print in an advanced state of decomposition was located during production of BLOOD & FLESH. The severe shrinkage and warp meant the element had to be scanned in pieces. The pieces were sliced together digitally and the complete film restored.

Five Bloody Graves was scanned and restored from its 2-perf 35mm Techniscope camera negative.

Five Bloody Graves Special Features:
*Outside of Tucson: Interview with Actor/Screenwriter Robert Dix
*Partial Archival Audio Commentary with Producer/Distributor Samuel M. Sherman

Audio: English Mono for all
Subtitles: English Closed Captions for all

Horror of the Blood Monsters was scanned and restored from its 35mm original camera negative. The color tinted sequences, which were photographed in Black & White were digitally tinted to precisely match the original release version.

Blood of Dracula's Castle Special Features:
*Partial Audio Commentary with Expert Brian Albright
*Audio Interview Excerpt with Alex D'Arcy

Horror of the Blood Monsters Special Features:

Transfer Notes: Smashing the Crime Syndicate a.k.a. The Fakers was scanned and restored from its original 35mm camera negative. Unfortunately, due to a mid 70s re-release, the original title card had been removed and replaced and as such, a 16mm screening print was scanned for the main title card.

Hell's Bloody Devils was reconstructed from several sources, including the original negative for The Fakers, as well as several faded 35mm release prints for the footage unique to this version of the film. The negative of the Hell's Bloody Devils footage is believed lost.

Smashing The Crime Syndicate Special Features:
*Alternate Title Sequence: The Fakers (Original Title)

Hell's Bloody Devils Special Features:

Two additional short scenes, consisting of footage excised from the US theatrical cut, but present in the International Version, were sourced from a faded 35mm answer print.

The Naughty Stewardesses Special Features:
*Archival Audio Commentary with Producer/Distributor Samuel M. Sherman

I think that Al Adamson and "masterpiece" should never be used together

So I'm not going to put all 30 trailers here (besides, not all of them are on youtube), but here's a selection to whet your whistle.

Looks like I'm getting the set for Black Samurai. More Jim Kelly is good.

Black Samurai is an all time classic bad movie, it's hilarious! As far as biker films go I quite like Satan's Sadists too.
Not sure i would want the whole boxset though, depends on how much it costs for me.

I'd imagine that Severin will release some of these "masterpieces" individually. How many or which ones is anyone's guess.

There’s a great looking, 4K restored version of Jessi’s Girls on Amazon Prime right now. Watch for free if you’re a subscriber.

Also, regarding Jessi’s Girls, most Al Adamson films are pretty tame when it comes to sexual violence, even films like Satan’s Sadists treats it routinely, but Jessi’s Girls takes a different stance with a rape scene that’s like a shorter version of the one in I Spit on your Grave. Shorter but still brutally violent and graphic. I wasn’t expecting it the first time I saw the film.

I just placed a pre-order for the standard edition ($170).

That’s a lot of cash, but it comes out to a little more than five dollars per movie.

Not gonna lie...i'm way more down to pay upfront for this than the Godzilla, Gamera and HGL box sets.

I'm been hoping for a remaster of Blood of Ghastly Horror alongside Psycho A-Go-Go and Fiend with the Electronic Brain as a companion piece to Arrow's Blood Bath set (which had a similar fate with constant re-edits and reshoots).

I'm not even sure how many of these films I actually want or need, but I doubt I'm going to be able to pass this one up! (All I know is there are about a half-dozen films here I'd like to have in my collection, and quite a few others that I've never seen). Definitely looking forward to seeing the Adamson documentary!

That Female Bunch 7" single and the Stewardesses Boarding Pass are neat little extras!

severin posted this about returns
New Policy Update:
If you need to request a refund for any order containing Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection, Bundle of Ghastly Horror, or Bundle A Go Go, please note that we will charge a $5 restocking fee. This is due to Paypal's recent policy change, by which they do not return their fees whenever we cancel and refund customer orders. Thank you for your understanding.

I'm all in for the Adamson set too. You can do whatever you want, but IMO, that Godzilla set and the HG Lewis set are so totally worth it. Like absolutely essential. I've had so much fun diving into both of them.
