To be honest I am not sure this is a good thing.

Cheaper is good. But do we really need a hotch potch of BD-R formats that are not really compatible with each other...? sigh...

These things better be like $2 or something

I also read that this disc will not be compatible with current Blu hardware. That's not good.

Yeah the discs I burn today play on my Panasonic and PS3. If that is not true of new media, the only value it has is to help push the price down overall...
