HD video requires one of the following connection types generally:
HDMI, DVI, or component video While Blu-ray players may also have s-video and composite outputs, those connections do not support HD resolutions. Component video is the minimum required connection to achieve HD resolution on your display. It consists, most often, of 3 RCA cables colored red, blue, and green. With this connection you can see 480i, 480p, 720p, or 1080i video from Blu-ray disc players. 1080p video is only available directly if using a HDMI or DVI connection (digital). These connection types allow any of the above listed formats as well as 1080p video. FYI: There is a specification within both Blu-ray and HD-DVD that allows a flag to be set, called the image constraint token (ICT) which will not allow full HD video over component. In those cases, component will still provide video, but not at 720p or 1080i, but only at 540p. If the numbers that I am using confuse you... 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 540p ...then do a Google for those terms. They refer to the resolution of the image you see on the display. |

The Ideal TV would be a 1080p that displays native 1080p and accepts it as well. It should also have 2 HDMI's so that you can run another source other than your blu-ray player all digitally.

Again: Anyone in the market for a new display...do yourself a favor and wait as long as you can humanly tolerate.
If you're buying a new display for Blu-Ray, I'd tell you to wait until at least the very day you go down to buy that Blu-Ray player, because you'll probably be able to get some sweetheart package discount and the rest of it. Example: If you decide to buy some Pioneer Elite display, you can almost count on the Pioneer Elite BD player and that display together maybe in some kind of package deal. (Or you can haggle for one.) Fall is when the new hardware really starts to roll out anyways. WAIT! |

I can't wait for our pioneer elite 50" 1080p to be displayed with the blu-ray player. You better believe that i'll be selling it like hotcakes. I don't know about us offering a package discount though. But most likely Best Buys with magnolias within them will be offering some sort of package deal.
