Love trailer compilations, but the price is a bit much.

Is there a list of the trailer previews? Are they only big-name titles, or are there some low-budget films depicted as well?

(The discussion on this release starts at 29:56 mark)

- There are over 200 teaser trailers, regular trailers, and radio spots on 2 discs.

- These are from every kind of movie (not just genre films) made in New York City in what Jonathan Hertzberg thinks as the "Fun City" era, from the 60s to the early 80s.

- If the trailer doesn't have a lot of New York footage, it's not included even if it's a New York movie.

- Nothing is taken from the internet or pre-existing discs. Everything is newly scanned from 35mm or 16mm film elements (or 7-inch reels for radio spots). If they can't get those elements, it's not included even if it's a quintessential New York movie such as The Taking of Pelham 123.

- This is why it took more than 2 years to put together this release.

- Every trailer has its own commentary recorded by film writers, filmmakers, actors, historians, archivists, programmers, etc. Hertzberg encouraged commentators to focus on New York aspects of trailers.

Ordered this but it is going to end up costing me more money. I will see a few trailers for movies I want to see and I will have to search them out and buy them and I am assuming the majority of them will be hard to find.

I kinda do and I kinda don't. I know for me it's fun not knowing what's coming up when I'm watching trailer comps, but it would be good to see a list now, way ahead of when I'll actually sit down with it.

My order has shipped* (sorry, I don't make a habit of this ), so you shouldn't have long to wait if you've pre-ordered!

*Yes, a month ahead of street date but it's been available for pre-order since September, so...

A review from mondo-digital, which deliberately doesn't name the movies that the included trailers were for ("By request there won't be a specific title rundown here, so pardon the vagueness here for the descriptions"). You can guess at most of them from the descriptions though.

The review is very positive and the discs seem packed: a 506-minute (nearly 8.5 hours!) runtime with two audio commentary tracks ("the first continuous and the second more intermittent as a vast gallery of guests take turns tackling each film") and includes a 1-hour+ compilation of radio spots, although it's unclear if this is included in the runtime listed above. That's basically 25+ hours of viewing and listening!

I finished watching it yesterday, and it's a mammoth beast! Lots of fun. The 8.5 includes the hour of radio spots, but still just a ridiculous amount of trailers, from the well-known to the obscure. There's a section on 60s trailers about 19 minutes long, then trailers from 1970-1975 that was 2 hrs 47 minutes if I remember correctly, the radio spots, and an Easter Egg of a few (non NYC-set) FCE trailers, and that's Disc 1. Interestingly there are radio spots for Death Wish, but unless I just forgot I don't think there's an actual trailer? Also there's a trailer for Morrissey's Trash, but it doesn't include the actors, so the rendering of Joe Dallesandro on the front isn't in the comp as far as I know. Disc 2 has 70s trailer from 1976-1979 around 90 minutes, then 2 hours 17 minutes of 1980s trailers, heavily weighted to the earlier part of the decade. The only notable omissions from the '80s are the lack of Spike Lee films, but I'm sure if they were able to be included they would have been. And one viewing note: when you get to Marathon Man, expect a marathon of trailers and TV spots! So many for that title, although other titles also have multiples. Also Disc 2 has another Easter Egg with more non-NYC trailers. This is a great great set and so happy that FCE put this together!

Did anyone who ordered two copies get both of them in the same package? I just opened mine and only one copy was in there but my order clearly confirmed that there were two shipped and paid for.

I tried to find a way to email them but their website doesn't contain any contact info. I had to reach out through their Facebook page in hopes I'd get a response.

Never mind, I just read on the listing on their site for this....

"Limited edition items are limited to 1 copy per customer. Orders that exceed these limits will be adjusted accordingly."

I noticed on the mondo-digital review that the link to purchase at diabolikdvd returns a “THIS PAGE DOESN'T SEEM TO EXIST” message.

Apparently they have sold out of their allotment. Hopefully FCE can fulfill the order I placed for this title last weekend at their site.

Checked out the first disc last night. Some great movie trailers here. Have never seen the original trailers for some of my fav’s like Midnight Cowboy, Loving, Desperate Characters and The Out-of-Towners. I’m a big trailer junkie. My only disappointment was in the quality of the presentation. Too bad there was no effort made to clean up and color correct these pieces of history. I expect the expense would have been too much to warrant the release. Overall, it’s a terrific release. On to disc 2….
