Ps3 Or Blu-ray Player???? - Blu-ray Forum

I'm from England but have a US PS3 for my Blu-rays, can anyone tell me if there is a better BR Player available rather than a PS3?

I'd rather get a region A player than region B if not region free

Not yet. By the end of the year there will be some close models but they wont be cheap.

This topic has been discussed to death! Use the search function and you'll find that a vast majority on this site prefer the PS3 to standalone players, as most of us on here own it!

I agree. I'm waiting for a 1.1 profile standalone that hauls ass with BD-J.

The short version is most knowledgeable people prefer the PS3 for a Blu-ray player over stand alone dedicated players. It's cheaper, has additional functions (including an ethernet port), will almost certainly be upgraded to meet profiles 1.1 & 2, is very well built, and will likely continue to receive firmware updates long after the dedicated players are abandoned by their makers.

At least, that's why I bought a PS3 to play BDs on. And I'm not a gamer.

Next time you have a bag of Walker's crisps and a Pimm's, think of me.

P.S. - They're not region free.
