Doesn't surprise me. From a business standpoint this makes pretty good sense. Why limit your install base to just one format. Intel sees the momentum of Blu-ray and just wants a bigger piece of the pie. It all comes down to money and profits.

Intel's press release seem to indicate that they actually are pushing for format neutrality.
Should I guess with the reactions in this thread that they used to be HD-DVD only ?

Regardless of the impact it has, this is good news!
I don't think it will have a MAJOR impact, but related to the news it will be good. Anythinng to get positive attention for blu-ray! Just one more hardware vendor to side towards blu-ray a.k.a. another nail in the coffin

I was thinking this quote at first, but M$ is not going to worry about this. It's true; however, they have to be thinking about this since the two chips in most PC computers (AMD and Intel) are supporting Blu.

Edit: Also thinking that most of the major PC computer manufacturers are also supporting the winning format.

So they were exclusive to hd dvd but went neutral! this is good because it looks like they want blu-ray to win and have kinda droped hd dvd support but dont want to say they want blu-ray to win. Come on Apple do your thing!

Blu-ray has been supported by heavyweights like Sony Corp. and Philips Electronics, while Toshiba Corp. has been the major proponent for HD-DVD. Hollywood studios have taken sides, as well, with Lions Gate, Sony Pictures, and Fox Studios championing Blu-ray, and Universal Studios championing HD DVD.
Best quote from the article - even if it sounds one sided.

its not that its what Intel has GOT TO DO WITH THIS WAR IN THE FIRST PLACE its what INTEL has DONE.

.AMD is already on board as one of blu-ray

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

INTEL was not....

this is more important to the IT industry for BLU-RAY support as a optical format. and since MICROSOFTS main BREAD and butter is the IT field.

SUPPORT FOR a FORMAT that mainly has 97% of all the worlds computer run Microsoft's OS. that if the chip makers are supporting Blu-ray EVEN Microsoft MAY NOT WANT TO IGNORE such Support. they can they just may not want too.

if the rest of the IT industry move toward BLU-RAY support over HD DVD Microsoft may follow. not saying they will. but it would be Smart too. Intel and Microsoft have a close relationship in the IT industry And EVEN INTEL is going to support BLU-RAY that is saying alot. not only Intel but AMD also
