Default $199 open item BD player at my Best Buy! The HD-A2 price drops as well

I couldn't believe there was a $199 open item Samsung Blu-Ray player at my Best Buy. It works fine, it was just a returned item. You might get as lucky at your nearby Best Buy one day. Also the new Samsung BD-P1400 came in @ $499.

On another note the Toshiba HD-A2 dropped to $249 (new) as a clearance item to make way for the next generation dud. We also got a new $499 Toshiba dud-1080p player.

we got a pioneer 999$ dvd player, when dvd players first came out, the guy ment to write down 499$ on the sheet he wrote down 199$ so we got a 1000$ dvd player for 199$. We paid extra to get the warranty, well one of the power pins fell out or got bent and we got a brand new one the next week. open box rules lol

Amazing! Which Best Buy was it? I assume you bought it? If not, is there any chance I could get it? Anyways, it probably was mispriced, as that price is just way too low.

South Florida. I work there and sometimes the managers make/approve really generous open item prices. I didn't buy it but I would've if I didn't have a PS3.

Hopefully I find one of these deals, maybe better, around X-mas. I've decided to give the gift of Blu!!! My dad has a HDTV but no blu-ray player.

If you really want to help this "war" buy everyone you know players and movies

we have the a30 in our system at our store, the cost is 350! Its actually costs 1.00 more than the sony s300. Cost advantage my ass! It shows either that the a2 were a huge loss for tosh, or the 1080I chipset is really cheap.

Wanna get really wierded out.. Some people believe that HD DVD discs are cheaper too. They aren't. I don't know how the HD DVD camp pulled that one off, total mystery.

Still is an advantage - you can get into HD-DVD much cheaper than Blu ray. Don't get too hung up on the 1080i/p aspect, because the vast majority of the population doesn't care.

actually cpgator Id have to disagree, people who buy a 1080p set usually want to ad a 1080p player. I sell tvs and people are very interested in 1080p, we actually sell more s300s than a2s. Price isnt the biggest factor, thats why the reports of bd standalones outselling tosh standalones didnt suprise me. Try to tell a customer their is NO difference between 1080i and 1080p! They do care

I posted this in another thread, but two best buys near me have the Samsung BD-1000p player priced at 299.99. New boxes, not open items.

Of people buying 1080p TVs, most probably do care. However, most people are buying 720p TVs, and even if they did care, 1080i or p wouldn't make a difference. Besides, look at all the people here that claim Tos sucks because the A2 only supports 1080i, but they have their PS3 hooked up to an off brand 720p TV, or in some cases a standard TV.

And of all the HDTVs currently in peoples homes, what % do you think are 1080p?

I personally think 1080p is important - I just don't think it is to the average public.

Default 1080p or 1080i

Most people do their reseach before purchasing expensiv tv. most people have inquir about LED, plasma, dlp and so. during this process. they discover the Hi DeF resolution 720p, 1080i and 1080p. once they find all the information. most would pay a hundrad or two extra to get the best product out there, a hundrad or two realy doesn't matter when person is pay about $2000 for a tv. I educated my entire family about getting the best tv out there for the best price. and also pushed them to purchase blu ray, so we can swap movies to each other. so in openion most people will purchasing 1080p tv from now on. and i trully believe that most people will find out that toshib $200 player is not true HD, and they will purchase blu ray.

If it's cheaper and looks good in the store, the masses will buy it. Looks in store count for a ton in the market.

The segment of consumers that even know what 1080 this or that is make up a small slice of the pie, which is why TVs are adjusted for showroom appeal.

Also when you have reps saying that you don't need HDMI, because you can get 1080p and the same quality through component cables, it doesn't help.

I was in BB and the rep said that if I could improve my ORIGINAL Xbox 360 by purchasing a HDMI cable. And I had to argue with him that he was wrong.

Well, when HD-DVD stops pushing combo-discs, it holds a bit more water.

Of course, it's more a situation of the studios that are Blu exclusive typically cost more than the studios that aren't blu exclusive.

Disney and Fox aren't cheap.

What about the lack of fast forward (more like skip forward), that all bitstream through optical is sent as DTS regardless the original codec, slow loading times and jumpy interface/popup menus?

Check my sig. The A2 is not a joy to use. In terms of interface/features the HD-A2 is a step down even from Toshiba's cheapest upscaling DVD players.
