I can't recall having ever caught this on TCM or elsewhere, but it's hard for me to resist a biblical epic. I'm probably in for this one.

I really hope the cover art is the same as the one in the OP above. Gina dancing. That is awesome. I think it is one of the best original movie posters I have ever seen.

EDIT: The poster art I was referring to is no longer in the OP. TT didn't go with it. Too bad, it was awesome.

That looks like the title card from the lobby card set and I am looking forward to owning this because I too love 50's historical epics!

This was my Biblical films wishlist from the relevant thread that I now see is closed.

-the story of ruth
-the prodigal
-sodoma and gomorra
-barabbas
-david and bathsheba
(i know this is available in Scandinavian countries)
-salome
-solomon and sheba
-esther and the king

I hope for the others to come too, and why not Jesus of Nazareth too, although it's a TV mini series???

Interesting, this one almost slipped past my radar. Really digging the old epics on blu, they don't make them like this anymore (for cost reasons, cheaper to use CGI than real people now).

Probably not a day one for me since that will be reserved for First Men in the Moon and Journey to the Center of the Earth, but this will be high on the back burner for any autographed giveaways.

This sounds encouraging.

Solomon And Sheba looks great! Even the long shots are sharp and detailed. Very happy with it.

I watched it on a 40" HD monitor.

I watched it. It looks fantastic. Beautiful color...very sharp and filmlike. There are a couple of blips where the right side of the screen protrudes momentarily from the rest of the frame. Source issues most likely (and maybe always there.) A winner!

I love it ! I got it on Friday the 13th again. Last month on the 13th I got To Sir, With Love ! Picture Quality is Excellent ! The Shifting on the right side is nothing serious. My mgm dvd did the same thing.

Haven't seen the disc yet, but I'm guessing it will be fine-just not superb. Expecting the studios to pay for a restoration of a title like this from the large format elements is unrealistic. Lawrence of Arabia, sure, but not something like this.

Edge enhancement on a large projection setup is very annoying. For $30 I had hoped for better.

In Solomon and Sheba, a completely contrived aggregation of plot points is assembled in order to provide a fairly turgid story of supposed forbidden love, one that is somewhat reminiscent of another (early) fifties' Biblical misfire, David and Bathsheba. Solomon and Sheba was beset with tragedy of almost Biblical proportions during its shooting when original star Tyrone Power more or less dropped dead of a heart attack after having completed a fight scene with his frequent on screen nemesis George Sanders.
How was David and Bathsheba a misfire? It was an excellent film that was very popular when released and placed high in the top grossing films of its year.
