Default Will Warner Bros. Go HD DVD Exclusive?

The big news a few weeks ago was when Paramount announced that they would be going HD DVD exclusive.

Now comes rumors that Warner Bros. may be making a similar deal...or one close to it. Reports are circulating this morning that the studio is mulling a deal which would make some big releases, such as Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix, exclusive to the HD DVD format. Toshiba is behind the offer, apparently offering Warners millions if they'll make the move.

But word is that Sony is doing its best to keep Warners format neutral, or possibly even making their own move to make the studio a Blu-ray exclusive one.

One things for sure: should Warners pick a side, it would probably be a fatal blow to the other format.

We'll keep you posted as events warrant....

Sorry here is the link.... this is my first time posting.

Do you have a link with official information? Warner has stated numerous times that they are remaining neutral so I don't really believe this. The offer brought before Warner was around the same time as the Paramount one and they rejected it.

Can we kill this thread??? This is obviously old news, if news at all. If something doesn't happen, does that make it news?

I love how this same story surfaces every couple of days as if it were new all over again. I'd hate to see Werner go but I think it's at least safe to say they will stay neutral through Q4. After that, they will be able to do an analysis on the sales numbers and make decisions accordingly.

That news page is dated 9/11. Not a nice day to spread FUD. If Warner was going HD-DVD I think they would have jumped the band wagon with Paramount. Seems that Warner doesn't think just in terms of dollars.

Warner going HD-DVD would certainly give a lot of us that sinking feeling. But as I have said in another thread. If one more studio supports HD-DVD, this war goes on indefinately. If one more studio stays neutral, this war goes on indefinately. As a result, NEITHER format will receive widespread acceptance.

Staying neutral is the lesser of two evils, but Warner has to look at the sales figures and say, "Hmm, blu-ray outsells at least 2:1. If we end this war, EVERYONE will start to buy blu-ray and earn us more money in the long run."

I will pee my pants if Toshiba manages to buy off another studio. Pee myself I will! If Sony wants to win, stop playing the tug of war to keep them neutral. That is a weak offer. Weak offers don't get the support just because it is better. Sony, PLEASE DON'T LET BLU-RAY BECOME THE NEXT BETA!

Someone close this thread. This is old news, and it was old when it was reported. They later came out and said that the report was out-of-date to begin with and the offer they were considering was at the same time Paramount got their offer, and WB already turned it down. They already said they will not choose sides but will consider the Q4 sales before making any further decisions.
Please close thread!
