Default Inexpensive system for PCM/Lossless audio?

I'm wanting to get a new system to experience all that Blu has to offer. My budget is $500 or less. Do I need new speakers as well or can I just get a new receiver? What I have now is a JVC THC-3, which does DTS and has optical in, but no HDMI.

If you already have 5.1 speakers, then it's the Onkyo 605. It's the favorite cheap HDMI receiver so far. US$499 I think though some online store has it for US$399.

Yea I haven't been much of a 'sound' guy cause I don't wanna wake up the baby around here with the noise. but I've been curious about updating my sound system. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely check it out.

With those speakers, I don't think you will benefit from PCM or lossless audio. I would pick up a new receiver first, and then when you have more money to spend, start upgrading the speakers.
